🤖 AI in Publishing 📖
AI is changing how books get written, edited, marketed, and sold, and the conversation around it is loud, confusing, and full of strong opinions. This audio podcast playlist cuts through the noise. In these episodes, I look at what AI can genuinely do for authors, where it falls short, and how to use it without handing over the voice and expertise that make your book worth reading in the first place. You'll hear practical talk about the tools, the ethics, the industry shifts, and the questions every thought leader should be asking before they let a machine anywhere near their manuscript. Whether you're curious, skeptical, or already experimenting, there's something here for you. Pop in your earbuds, give a few episodes a listen, and then tell us where you land. I'm curious: are you using AI in your writing process, or keeping it at arm's length? 🦫 https://feeds.captivate.fm/publishing-for-professionals/ai-in-publishing/

@Delis Guzman I agree with you. It is a tool that has its place but it does t wrote quality work on its own.
Audiobook Grant For Black Fiction Authors
Hey future authors! Here's another great grant from our community member @Danielle Desir Corbett Make sure to get on her Grants for Creators list on Substack. This is her latest post: Have an audiobook you want to produce that has been on your mind (and heart)? This grant supports Black authors interested in transforming their written work into audiobooks. Genres: Romance, Literary Fiction, Fantasy/Sci-Fi, Young Adult, Thriller/Mystery, Contemporary Fiction This is the second audiobook grant we’ve spotted this summer. We love seeing grant money being poured into audiobook production! https://open.substack.com/pub/grantsforcreators/p/audiobook-grant-for-black-fiction?r=26yiz2&utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web

🎯 Write On Track: The Meetup Where Books Get Finished 📖 11am PST / 2pm EST
Here's the truth about writing a book. The hard part isn't the idea and it isn't the talent. It's showing up again next week when nobody is asking you to. That's what Write On Track is for. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Friday at 11 am PST. You bring your goals, tell us what got in your way, and set one specific task you'll finish before we meet again. Then two weeks later you come back and report on it. Simple, and shockingly effective, because it's a lot easier to skip a promise you made to yourself than one you made out loud to a room full of people who are rooting for you. You'll also find your people here. Someone in the room has already moved past the same stage you're stuck in, and someone else is looking for a co-writing partner in your time zone. That's the part nobody expects, and everybody ends up loving. Whether you're on chapter one or on your final read-through, this is the session that keeps you moving. Bring your goals and come join us. 🦫 What are you working on this week? Let us know in the comments below!
The Hidden Cost of Asking AI Before You Call Your Lawyer
Hey Friends and Future Authors, My good friend, Gordon Firemark, has been a guest on my podcast. His latest blog is an article I think everyone should read, especially if you're looking to secure a contract inside the publishing space. "What should have been a minor contract dispute turned into months of conflict, damaged relationships, and unnecessary legal expense. It didn’t start with bad lawyering. It started with ChatGPT. A client came to me with what should have been a relatively minor contract problem. It wasn’t the sort of issue that usually leads to litigation. A thoughtful conversation between the parties, a modest revision to the agreement, and everyone likely would have moved on. Instead, the client did what more and more people are doing today. They asked ChatGPT what to do. Not surprisingly, ChatGPT gave them the arguments they wanted to hear. Confident. Persuasive. Decisive. Before talking to me, the client fired off a strongly worded letter based largely on that advice. The response was immediate. The other side dug in." Mine is not related to writing, but to my garden! I just harvested a boatload of purple potatoes from my garden box.
