Staffing Question!
Hey everyone! If you have multiple staff members on your Kids or Family Ministry team, I'd love to hear how your roles are structured. Right now, our team is organized by ministry area (PreK, Elementary, and Family Experience), but I'm exploring whether that's the most effective setup. How is your team divided up? Do staff members oversee specific age groups, focus areas, or responsibilities? I'd love to hear what has worked well for your church and any insights you've gained along the way. 😊
Volunteer Training
Last week in our Kids Ministry Circle Roundtable call, we talked about rhythms around volunteer training. Fall is around the corner and you may be working through your 2026-2027 Volunteer training calendar. So, let's take a poll! How often do you train your volunteers? Bonus question to answer in the chat...are your rhythms working? PS: If you are a member in the Kids Ministry Circle Roundtable, I just dropped a deep dive video explaining my 4-part Volunteer Training Strategy into your specific classroom!

No πŸ˜‚ That is why this is something I have been trying to reenvision! We have good rhythms for training in our weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly schedule breakdown, but I do feel like our trainings in the past have felt a little more generalized and I am working towards these moments to be a lot more practical for my leaders. Taking a training or something I have learned and putting it into context to our church, our kids, our behaviors, etc.
Monday Question of the Week!
Hello! There are a lots of new friends in this space--welcome! We have been talking a ton about Promotion Sunday & grade transitions these past couple weeks and this week's podcast is with Sean Sweet talking all about Preteen Ministry & Promotion Sunday! Let's chat! What are you doing for Promotion Sunday? In our church, one thing we are doing is hosting a breakfast before service for all incoming student ministry families.

Love Promotion time!! Such a fun way to celebrate the kids and provides super practical ways to equip parents (school year prayer prompts, recommend different family devotionals and habits while they get back into routines after summer craziness, etc.). For PreK > Kindergarten we do a little Preschool Graduation event at a local park under a pavilion. We have a little 'ceremony' and have them walk across this little bridge we got on Amazon and give each kid a diploma and an Adventure Bible to graduate from their Jesus Storybook Bible (they get so excited about this). Then they go to the playground next to the pavilion and play and parents meet other parents and we connect while the kids are playing. It's been a hit! We invite their PreK leaders to attend this as well :) For 5th > Students we have an Open House so they can experience what our Student gathering looks like, meet their new small group leaders, and parents have a meeting with our Next Gen Pastor who oversees students. They get a sermon notes notebook and some stickers. This year we are planning to gift them a leather back Bible too. At both of these we get the kids/students/parents/leaders together at the end and intentionally pray over them as they head into a new season. And then on Promotion Sunday we have a little photo op with a kid trampoline where they can jump up and throw confetti for a photo op and we pass out popsicles after service. We also passed out the cute lunchbox notes that Amanda from Kids Ministry Solutions posted this year to parents and those were a hit! We're launching a 456 Preteen Ministry this September, so super pumped that is a topic on your podcast coming up!
