Sel d’cission time… Sel d’Issey EDT vs EDP
OK, I’m still a bit mad about losing my entire Sel d’Issey post on this buggy app yesterday and after a long crappy day at work, I still don’t have the energy to re-create it, but I definitely need some help so here’s a shorter version. Over the weekend, I battled Sel d’Issey EDT versus EDP and I love them both. I’ve tried a bunch of others from this house and nothing came close to being as enjoyable as these two are to me. Both have this unique salty fresh aquatic opening that’s just awesome, both are extremely well balanced, and both are easy to wear. They are relatively elegant in their simplicity. Here are the main differences I found. The EDP has a hint more seaweed that gives it a little bit of funk in the open, but it’s not offputting. The EDP also has a bit of a warm backbone of amber and incense - not enough to make this a heavy cold weather scent, but it is something that gives it more heft and makes it versatile for all but the coldest of winter and hottest of summer. The EDP definitely wins in the dry down, it has this delicious ambery almost vanillic finish. This thing projected for a good 5+ hours and then there was another 3-4 hours of that delicious skin scent. But the open for the EDT… Man it’s magical to me. The EDT is the winner by a smidge in the open and mids. It’s just got this light airy freshness that’s kind of unique — it’s not citric, it’s not particularly blue, it’s certainly not fruity… It’s just fresh aquatic. And the EDT lasts for a surprisingly long time - at 4 hours I was still getting wafts of it and it was a skin scent for several hours more after that. This one would be perfect for spring and summer, unique in my collection because nothing else I have smells remotely like it. I don’t even know what I’m smelling with this one – it’s just this salty aquatic delightful fresh scent. At least with the EDP I can kind of lock onto the amber and incense on top of this indescribable salty aquatic vibe. You see why I’m getting stuck? These are both really good, especially since you can find them both at discounters for under 100 bucks. I’m kind of drawn to the versatility and safety of the EDP because of the familiarity of the amber and incense, but I’m also kind of drawn to the EDT and its super fresh open and surprising performance. So yeah I don’t know what to do. I can’t get both but I definitely want one.

@Jeff Beason I’m at the airport and just got my nose on the l’eau cedar and it was really nice off strip… hmm might have to get a sample of that one

@Ben E I just got my nose on the l’eau cedre and it was nice. But these Sel d’isseys really stand out for me over anything else in the line that I’ve tried so far
At the duty free, yo!
Mostly shopping for ideas for my new lady friend but here’s what I found for me: - Issey Miyake L’eau et cedre: interesting spicy wood, could be sample worthy - Terre d‘Hermes: not for me! I like Eau Givree tho - SWY Powerfully and JPG Scandal Absolu: wow, really not for me! I think I really dislike cherry notes in men’s fragrance - Chanel Super Leggera: mmm I’m on the fence. I think the musk could be problematic for me

@Jeff Beason lol phew I kind of panicked at the idea of both of us burning through the same bottle. Not ready for that 🙂

@Paul Bartnicki absolutely! And it’s been fun sampling ladies perfumes. I’m happy to report that my nose has the same issues with notes in ladies perfumes that it does in men’s/unisex. Screechy florals? No thank you. Iris?? Good god, no. Haven’t found any with clary sage or screechy musks yet… but turns out I do like rose a lot, just not for me to wear
Mail Call!
Shoutout to @Mark DiCiero for helping me spend my money recently 😁 I did a poll asking if I should buy PDM Sedley or Lorenzo Pazzaglia Summer Hammer and left it open until 7:30. It was tied at 7:30 and Mark recommended I grab this one so I used it as a tie breaker 😁. Total blind buy for me. Full review coming in a few days when it warms back up! The note breakdown is so extensive it took 2 screenshots

I have decants of both the EDP and Parfum Oceania, and a few weeks ago I battled them against each other. In the end I can’t wear either - the iris / florals are too screechy and kill them both for me 😢
I pulled the plug on my order from The Parfums
After waiting more than 6 weeks for The Parfums to ship Grand Soir to me, I cancelled the order. They clearly never had a reliable way of getting the product they sold, which is just bad business. To their credit, they refunded my money quickly, but since there's no way of knowing if you'll actually receive what you pay for, this was a one-n-done for me.

Wow. I am happy I pulled my order of Absolute Aphrodisiac from them ($20 bucks more and I had it in my hands from Aura less than a week later) but I got such a good deal (like, a too good to be true deal maybe?) on Viking Cologne that I’m back in line… two and a half weeks so far without even a shipping label. There were so many discounts that stacked I’m actually worried that they will cancel the order on me
