Bleu Battle
Good day, everybody! Today I am battling two excellent Fragrance du Bois offerings: Oud Bleu Intense vs. Cayman Bleu Cayman Bleu is apparently an oudless reformulation of Oud Bleu Intense, and that’s apparent out of the gate. While they are very similar, Cayman Bleu opens a bit lighter and brighter, with a hint more citrus; while Oud Bleu Intense definitely has more depth with a touch of non-stinky oud and a more apparent incense note. Cayman Bleu did have a bit of a funky note at the open that I didn’t love (maybe the onycha, whatever that is) but thankfully it faded after half an hour. Both are monsters - 3 sprays to the arm for each, and 5 hours later I’m still getting both wafting up to my nose. The drydowns are similar, a lovely balsamic amber that still somehow hints at citrus. Both are full bottle worthy - definitely an interesting take on “blue” fragrances, built around amber and resin more than something like BDC which has more of a woody backbone. But I think I prefer Oud Bleu Intense - I enjoy the relative richness, which also makes it more versatile throughout the cooler months (but it’s still light enough for summer - just maybe not in the highest heat, where Cayman Bleu would definitely work better). Also, Cayman Bleu is harder to find at a discount as it’s a limited release. So taking all that into account, I’m thinking if I can find a deal on Oud Bleu Intense, I gotta get a bottle

@Jeff Beason yeah I would go for Oud Bleu Intense. Have you tried it yet? It’s fantastic, really cool how they make something without any real woods so blue. So expensive though unless you can find it at a good discount. I did notice that Montagne makes an inspo…
SOTD: M. Micallef - GnTonic
A warm weather beast, GnTonic has a wonderful fizzy effervescence that really radiates in the heat. A beautiful blend of citrus, woods, and musk, it is effortlessly refreshing, timeless, classy, and masculine. Not particularly boozy, which I appreciate. Can be worn both casually and in more formal scenarios. More than worthy of being a signature scent or a daily driver. It is a rather unique fragrance, to my nose and I have never smelled anything else quite like it. It can also last a solid 6-8 hours, which is quite nice for a freshie! On a side note, I have a sample of ATH’s new fragrance Gin Sling on its way that should be here on Saturday. I don’t think they’re supposed to be very similar, but I am looking forward to comparing and contrasting the two scents, nonetheless! Happy Thursday, everybody!

Great choice! I literally bought a bottle after my first time test wearing this. It’s so unique and refreshing. I get maybe five hours at most but that’s plenty for an afternoon or evening out. I got a bottle of gin sling last week and I can say they are pretty different and so I don’t think it’s redundant to have both

@Jordan Filley it’s very nice - here’s a post on my first impressions https://www.skool.com/bos/ath-gin-sling-first-impressions?p=bb617f84
Passionate Chypre Tester now $48 at Jomashop
Just saw this - Jomashop has a tester bottle of the Boss Collection Passionate Chypre for $48. I got my nose on this at a duty-free shop last week and it was really good. Basically, it’s a very classically masculine mossy vibe with a deep black cherry note, dark and not sweet or overpowering. I can’t promise it, but when I’ve gotten testers of the Boss Collection from Jomashop before, they came with a cap. I think this is a steal and if I hadn’t gone overboard recently with a bunch of other purchases, I’d probably scoop this up. https://www.jomashop.com/hugo-boss-unisex-the-collection-passionate-chypre-edp-spray-3-4-oz-tester-fragrances-3616304472138.html?srsltid=AfmBOopxGX5M2oD4IA4q4Zptvtk7xq8I6mlmCteEdE-j3aLq1hdOLRVG

@Jeff Beason I have a decant on the way and if that bottle is still on sale by the time I test wear the decant and like it, Imma scoop that bottle up
What should I do next?
Inspired by going through My collection and wearing all of my Aventus DNA frags I thought I would do something similar but with a single brand. Since they sit beside each other on the same shelf, I thought I would start with these two Burberry and Guerlain. Neither of those appeal. Let me know what you think I should try. I may not have it but I might Thanks in advance

If you’re looking for more Aventus-like DNA, there are some good and relatively inexpensive niches I’ve tried and enjoyed… you could look at: - Loewe Esencia EDP (I like this one a lot) - Merchant of Venice Venetian Blue - Nishane Hacivat - Superz Dominance - ATH Supernova or Supersonic - And of course, Mancera Cedrat Boise - Plus there’s always Eros Energy If you’re looking to broaden beyond the Aventus DNA, Guerlain is going to have a wider range for you to sample than Burberry.

@Johnny Arriaza I absolutely will not consider buying something until I’ve gotten my nose on it and tried wearing it on skin first
