The one sentence that makes a sermon gospel-centered
In this short video, I'll show you the one sentence your sermon needs to be genuinely gospel-centered (and how to structure it). Replace buzzwords with this one, clear sentence, and see what happens.

@McKay Caston "On the cross, Jesus took the penalty for our [specific failure from the text] and gave us his perfect record of [specific obedience from the text], so that we are now legally accepted and relationally treasured by God." this is SO good! I need it written out clearly like this to craft a gospel-centered sermon. I'm through with moralistic preaching ... may the Lord help Me 😌
Is the progression of the text inspired
I read a post the other day that stated something like: As exegetical preachers, we believe that the progression of the text, the verbs, their placement, etc. are all part of the inspired word, and therefore the sermon should reflect that progression. Thoughts?

My initial thought is yup! That’s the whole Verbal Plenary Inspiration. And I think PPGR keyword is awesome because if the text and the Holy Spirit guides you to look at a certain exegetical nuance to preach, we can be assure that it is part of God‘s inspired text but what I like about the keyword is and what McKay has taught is that this is why we can preach the same passage with different emphasis.
The Beauty and Goodness of a Slow Work
Rejoice with us!! This Sunday, as we gather for our Particularization service, we are stepping into a moment that is both a culmination and a consecration. For six and a half years, this church plant has been a shared and sustained effort of praying, waiting, working, sweating, befriending, sharing, counseling, listening, and so much more. We have been longing to see God establish a local expression of His kingdom here in Morristown and the Lakeway area—not for our name, but for His glory alone. There is a profound, and often overlooked, beauty and goodness in the slow work of God. We live in a world that prizes the immediate and the efficient. Church planting is not that. Instead, it is a patient work of "growing down" before we "grow out." It is a realization that the Gospel is not merely the gate through which we enter the Christian life, but the very air we breathe and the path we re-learn to walk every day. To be a "particular" church is to commit ourselves to prizing the Gospel as our greatest treasure. It is the announcement that because Jesus lived the life we should have lived and died the death we deserved, we are now fully reconciled and truly free. This isn't just a theological abstract; it is a reality that aims for the heart. We do not seek to perform surface-level religious behavior, but long for God to bring a deep, interior renewal where our fears and loves are met by the mercy of Jesus. In a culture of flash, clicks and likes, our neighbors long for something authentic and genuine and the Gospel is the only solution to every heart’s greatest need. We long for this renewal to spill over into how we treat one another. We want to exemplify a friendship and hospitality that views people not as interruptions or projects, but as precious image-bearers of God. In a world marked by isolation and transient roots, we are learning to open our hearts, our lives, our homes and our tables because we were once strangers whom Christ has now welcomed all the way in. We are cultivating a life with God, together, leaning into the ancient rhythms of Scripture, prayer, baptism and the Table, knowing that the Christian life is not a private journey but a long pilgrimage best shared in the company of His people.

This is so good! Thank you for sharing this with us. My church plant just celebrated our 6 years last Sunday. I have found so much freedom in walking in the gospel to do ministry out of faith for His glory. I have been learning to accept God’s metric of what satisfies and honor him and not on the metric of success found in the world. I love how you say we have to growing down to grow out. Thank you brother!

Your True Identity is Not on the Line This Sunday
It's SO EASY to tie our identity to how people respond to our sermons. Before Sunday arrives, here's a quick dose of gospel truth to anchor your pastoral heart. ⚓️ YOU ARE A SON BEFORE YOU ARE A SERVANT. Jesus doesn't love you because you preach well. He loves you because you are his. ⚓️ YOUR IDENTITY IS SECURE. Your worth is rooted in the finished work of the cross, not how many stars your sermon gets. ⚓️ THE PRESSURE IS OFF. The Holy Spirit changes hearts. You simply deliver the message. 1. Which of those three truths is the hardest for you to hold onto when Saturday night rolls around? 2. What is a specific practice or reminder you use to tether your identity to Jesus BEFORE AND AFTER you preach? This Sunday, you get to preach from a place of Fatherly approval. The same gospel you're preparing to share with your people is the gospel that covers and sustains you right now. Have a restful Saturday, and preach grace with freedom on Sunday.
