Organizing the data; seeing it in the context of a bigger picture. After spending several years taking notes on a number of topics that I thought had value and wanted to share in thoughtful and coherent way, it turned out to not be as simple as just drafting an outline. The connections between topics weren't clear in a satisfying way. I spent a lot of time thinking about it developing a number of outlines that didn't quite work. Then I found a book about learning and the method that author used to develop his book, using a 'memory map'. Julie has talked about it. In any case, once completed the memory map allowed me to visualize information from a number of notebooks I had on a number of subjects, in a relatively short time. When I looked at the final memory map, which was a number of sheets of paper taped together on the floor, a few months of struggle came together almost instantly. For anybody struggling with information overload, I highly recommend this technique.

@K J One other benefit is that when it all came together, many of the topics I had made notes on didn't make it into the book. Perhaps as much as 40%. I now have memory map as resource to look at to remind me of the topics which didn't make it, that I can easily reanimate as blog topics in launching my marketing campaign and building the brand.
Weekly Discussion: What’s your #1 author goal for 2026?
New year, fresh momentum. 🎉Let’s set the tone for 2026 together. What’s the one thing you want to accomplish in your author journey this year? It could be big or small: Finish your first draft, publish your book, start (or grow) your email list, get more reviews, sell more books, etc. Drop your goal in the comments — and if you know it, share your next step too (even if it’s a small one). Chances are, someone here has the same goal… and we can all help each other stay on track this year. 🤝📚

Hit the publish button this month!
Website URL question
I created an LLC for my publishing company, and I was going to use that for my author website URL. However, I noticed that most authors use their name for their URL, which evidently is usually available. Are there any advantages to using one URL over another?

Julie and Sarah, Thank you for your responses. The advice and video were very helpful. I've only been here a few days and I can't tell you how happy I am that I found this community!

@Rob Cole I decided to go with branding myself, although I still have the domain for the publishing company, should that make more sense at some point.
