Somebody asked me to look at a campaign this on one of the recent Insiders calls. About 5,000 emails sent, reply rate low. Deliverability had been checked and was fine, no blacklist issues, nothing obviously broken. The offer was cold email as a service, targeting digital marketing agencies. My answer was three words; I hate it. That is not about the person or their execution. Cold email as a service is one of the first things cold emailers want to sell, and the reason is sound. The end result is very attractive. A cold outbound system that gets leads for clients is something everybody needs. And that is exactly the trap. It is so oversold that it has become brutally competitive to sell directly over cold email. SEO offers do this. Web design offers do this. Most AI offers do this now too. You are genuinely helping people, they genuinely need it, and they have gone numb to receiving those emails. They go extra numb if you are emailing people who are getting emailed all day, every day. Which is a fair description of a digital marketing agency owner. So diagnosis first, because low replies is one of three things and sometimes all three. Deliverability. The list. The copy. Rule them out in that order. But when the offer itself is saturated and the audience is the most emailed inbox on the internet, that is a fourth thing, and no amount of copy editing touches it. Two moves. Diversify who you are hitting. Change the ICP, or change the database you are pulling from. A local leads database or an Instagram database will usually get better replies than a mainstream B2B database in a saturated offer, because those people are not being hammered by everybody else running the same filters. Or just pick an industry that is less hammered. Then fix the front end. Do not ask for the whole thing on first touch. That is not pay me $4,000 a month to do cold email for you. It is let me set up your entire cold email infrastructure for free, or for 50 bucks. Let me write your cold email copy. Let me build you a nurture sequence.
