Time is fleeting!
I have lost a few extra jobs or they have come to an end, students have reached their goals or my PIRF lessons have come to an end. 😭 I thought this would give me more time to do other things as well as teaching my wife to help and do PPT's, she is doing very well and getting very good at it. However, i thought this would give me lots of free time to do other things, no chance of that! Microsoft office has put a spanner in the works and made an easy job very difficult! Normally i am building PPT's every day and always learning more along the way. Well, i have been learning more about AI and having it help me with making the PPT's more attractive for students. Many of these websites offer great things but you always have to sign-up or pay before they do anything, this is a pain because you never find out if it is what you want or a load of rubbish. So, obviously i have been surfing the net searching and running out of credit whilst doing my work. One of these websites with the material i have been working on has corrupted my Microsoft and now has blocked some of the PowerPoints tools! 🀬 Now we all know that Microsoft are not very fourth coming in solving these issues, and i have spent so much time trying to fix these errors so that i am able to carry on with me work. Hopefully the students will like the PPT's much more but i still have so many problems to fix to make it more efficient.

@Taisei Koshida Thank you, and i still keep going. I'm not one to be giving up as we do some of the best things at these times. As for going to bed at 7pm, i get home at about 6:30pm.

I hate the waiting at the airports, and why is everything so damn expensive!
LEFT BRAIN vs RIGHT BRAIN...kind of a myth BUT...
After years of analytical English study, your brain is very strong at rules and word-by-word processing. This has traditionally been referred to as LEFT BRAIN skills. What we need to develop now is the more intuitive, natural side of communication β€” things like rhythm, intonation, emotional tone (prosody), humor, and predicting what comes next in a conversation. Research shows the right hemisphere plays a particularly important role in processing prosody and emotional aspects of speech. For real communication (listening/speaking) skills we, of course, need both the Right and Left to cooperate. It’s actually very difficult to consciously train the more natural, intuitive side of English communication β€” things like rhythm, emotional tone (prosody), humor, and understanding the flow without translating in your head. Your analytical skills are already strong from years of school English. What we need now is to develop the subconscious, automatic side. That's exactly what PIRF and DDM are designed to do. This is just an FYI for people who want to know WHY we do what we do!

Translation definitely slows you down and you end up speaking in chunks, in addition you can end up speaking English with Chinese grammar!🫣 The more practice you have, the better you will be.

@Alvena Nance Hello and welcome to LME, πŸ‘ I am also an ESL teacher and have been for 15 years 😭, I have taught all ages here in Beijing including PIRF. I find the best thing for young learners is to find games or add a game in with what they have learnt, there are many websites that have games for English learners. Games help adults and children with English and they want to be apart of it, you don't have to force them and they push themselves with the English. I am currently teaching 7 graders and i use word games in the class (end of the class if they have been good and quick). "Think word" Pick a category, (I.E. things you button-up), have the alphabet on the board and the students have to think of words that start with one of those letters. (at the bottom) "Charades" First, split the class into teams and then pick a category of the word (animal, movie, object, or what they have learned in class, etc.) to give the guesser a starting point, (best write the word on a piece of paper but one show one person. they must act out the word) second, pick a person from the team and they must try to get their team to guess the word before the other teams get it. They can only use actions to indicate the number of syllables of the word to help guessers break down complex words. For long words, you can act out different parts separately and then combine them. Use facial expressions to convey emotions and attitudes to enhance expressiveness. Keep actions simple and clear, avoid overly complex or vague gestures. Observe the guesser's reactions and adjust your acting style to provide better hints
A night of a thousand lights!
For some people it is hard to imagine what living in a city is like, especially in such a big city as Beijing. I looked out of the window and seen a thousand lights across the part of the city. These picture were taken over the back streets of the down town area, if it was the main streets then all you would see would be office blocks and hotels. It wouldn't have been the same.
