Late summer christening outfit

I have been invited to a cocktail party and I’m curious, are wristwatches usually worn with cocktail attire and another question about shoes. I’ve heard that Oxfords are the traditional option but I don’t want to spend $200+ for a pair of Oxfords as I already have a pair of Chelsea boots that cost that same amount so should I invest in a pair of Oxfords or stick with Chelsea boots?
