PRACTICE THAT TRANSLATES 🪞🏀
A lot of players practice moves. Great players practice moves they’re actually going to use. That side-step. That pull-up. That change of pace. That separation. If you’re going to use it in a game, you need to practice it like it’s a game. Don’t casually walk into your side-step. Don’t shoot your pull-up with no pressure. Don’t do a move at half speed and expect your body to magically execute it at full speed when the lights come on. Practice at game speed. Practice with purpose. Practice with pressure. Imagine the defender. Create the separation. Get to your spot. Rise up. Make the read. Your practice reps are building the habits your body will fall back on when you’re tired, when the defense is closing, and when the game is on the line. And especially if you’re a high school player: You don’t have unlimited time in the gym. So stop asking, “How many shots did I get up?” Start asking: “How many of those reps actually made me better at playing basketball?” Maximize your practice time. Don’t just practice basketball. Practice YOUR basketball. Because the goal isn’t to look good in workouts. The goal is to make it translate when it matters. Trainer: @Logan Hinton, a former 5 year pro across three countries. Gaining Power ⚡️🔋🏀
To be powerful on the court, you have to learn how to create power off of it. Before the explosive first step. Before the violent change of direction. Before the bounce. Before the dunk. There’s work that has to happen in the weight room. Strength gives you a foundation. Power teaches you to use that strength explosively. And the combination is what shows up when the game gets fast. You don’t train just to lift more weight. You train so you can be stronger through contact. Explode past your defender. Finish through traffic. Jump higher. Move faster. And play with more force. The highlight happens on the court. But the foundation is built when nobody is watching. And yes… this benching video is from when I was 17 😂 it was the only clip I had, but the message still stands. Build your strength. Build your power. Then bring it to the game. 🏀⚡️ Trainer: @Logan Hinton, a former 5 year pro across three countries. Train Like a Pro!

OBSESSION 🏀
I think one of the biggest differences between being good at something and becoming GREAT at something is how much you genuinely love it. You have to be obsessed. For me, basketball has gotten to the point where I can’t go anywhere without looking for a hoop. Paid to shoot baskets at Kings Island? Absolutely. On a date doing a corn maze, see a hoop sitting off to the side? 50 makes. Picking strawberries at a farm, spot a makeshift goal? You already know I’m getting shots up. These are just a few examples. I’ve shot in parking lots, parks, driveways, gyms, campsites… pretty much anywhere I can find a rim. And that’s what obsession looks like. You don’t always need the perfect gym. You don’t always need a trainer. You don’t always need a workout planned out. Sometimes you just need a basketball and a reason to get better. When you truly love something, you don’t have to convince yourself to work on it. You find a way. The best in the world aren’t great because they worked hard when they felt motivated. They’re great because they fell so deeply in love with the process that getting better became part of who they are. Find something worth obsessing over. Then go all in. 🏀 Trainer: @Logan Hinton, a former 5 year pro across three countries. Train Like a Pro!

Picking YOUR Person 💘🏀
I know you’re probably wondering what picking your person has to do with basketball—and why it matters so much. The truth is, it has everything to do with it. And honestly, it has everything to do with your future. In high school, you’re already balancing school, a sport, friendships, family, and everything else life throws at you. There are only so many hours in a day. If you choose someone who doesn’t understand the demands of your goals, eventually something is going to suffer. Maybe it’s your sport. Maybe it’s school. Maybe it’s your mental health. Maybe it’s the relationship itself. The right person won’t make you feel guilty for chasing something that matters to you. They’ll support you. They’ll understand that sometimes you have to work when everyone else is hanging out. That sometimes you have to say no. That sometimes the extra workout, the early morning, the late night, or the sacrifice is necessary because you’re trying to become someone you’re not yet. And you have to be willing to give that same support back. For me, that person is my wife. There were times when I was getting three workouts in a day, and she was there for nearly every one of them. Sometimes she was rebounding. Sometimes she was reading a book while I worked. Sometimes she was simply sitting there. But she was present. She never made me feel bad for wanting more. She never made me choose between her and my dreams. She understood that my goals weren’t a threat to our relationship—they were a part of who I was. There were even times I had to leave the country and be gone for extended periods of time to play. And even then, I knew I could trust her to hold down the fort while I chased something I believed in. That kind of support is priceless. The person you choose can have an incredible impact on your mental health—for better or for worse. They can either give you peace when life gets hard or add weight to everything you’re already carrying. They can help you become the best version of yourself, or slowly convince you to become less of who you were meant to be.
