USA Youth Return from Pam-American Championships in Bolivia
Steven Wimmer 15 (North Carolina) and Neallie Gillis-Pade 16 (California) represented the USA at the Youth Pan American Modern Pentathlon Championships in Santa Cruz Bolivia this past weekend. They participated in the U17 individual events and the mixed relay. Conditions were tough with 95 degrees, strong sun, and high humidity but what a great learning experience for these two young athletes to meet and compete with athletes from Bolivia, Guatemala, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Canada, Panama, Ecuador, and Peru. Key highlights included Steven having the 3rd fastest obstacle time in the U17 boys event and Neallie was the top female fencer in the mixed relay event winning 16 of 18 bouts. We look forward to what's next for Neallie while cheering for Steven as he competes in the USAPM National Championships this weekend.

Clarifying question: The selection document states that “a competition will remain on the ranking list for 365 days.” Does this apply to 2025 events that have already taken place, or are all athletes starting at 0 now and moving forward? Is 2025 Nationals the first event that scores points for the 2026 season? For example: In March-ish of 2026 when you’re determining automatic qualification for the first World Cup event in April, will the National Ranking List be calculated using the events that have taken place in the previous 365 days (Charlotte Invitational, Regionals, B/C events, Canada Nationals, World Championship etc) or will it be calculated to only include events between now and March? This doesn’t apply to me at all since I’m not an athlete at the international level, but just trying to be a useful voice in the community and ask the questions that warrant asking!
