Okay, now what?
Okay so i have practiced art for a while now, i have mastered the things i wanted to master and yeah so on.. But how do i create something new? Something of my own? 😂 any tips? Like i feel i cant create anything genuine just random non unique stuff like a character design that has been made a 1000 times

@N H A challenge that I find daunting is to take a character of yours and have them do something mundane like brushing their teeth or combing their hair. Composing a heroic pose is very different than making a character feel natural in a comic book space. :)

Any thoughts on this rough before I go into more detail? Thanks my friends.

@Joshua Grube You’re off to a good start. Two things to keep in mind when you’re drawing the female form. One is to watch the neckline, and second the upper body. Both are more tapered than the masculine form. So think of the neck as a slender cylinder and then make the proportion on the upper body a quarter shorter than you would for a male figure. The bust line would be about halfway from your upper body rectangle. I hope this helps! :)
Figuring out my characters
Thought I'd share a character I'm playing with. Everyone....meet my hacker, Cheshire. Cheshire....meet everyone.

@N Colin Dyer Thanks! He was definitely a lot of fun to draw. I’m thinking of doing some other explorations with him to see if I can pull out more of his idiosyncrasies. :)

Whenever I am live on social I probably answer these questions a thousand times 😂 "what brush I am using?" "what ink I am using?" "what paper am I inking on?" So I finally put together a nice big long Amazon list of all the different materials that I use and personally prefer for my work for anyone who wants recommendations OR is looking to test out new materials! Check it out here: https://amzn.to/3MAvazi Also please share your favorite pens, pencils, inks, watercolors, paper, markers, paint, canvases, etc. below! I personally am always interesting in trying out new pens despite the fact that I already have 5000+ pens cluttering my studio 🫣

Shaedtler 780 leadholder clutch pencil for sketching, gum eraser for light detailing, 0.3 and 0.5 mechanicals for clean lines, and Procreate for my comic pages
Tried again
Okay, so I redid the hair... I don't hate it, but it still feels like a lazy result.

@Tasha Jeffcoat Looking good! The textures are really coming together. Have you considered a holding rule? Basically, a heavy line to contain your details. For some illustrators it’s helpful for defining the forms. You have some really elegant shades happening now, which honestly a hard line might work against you. Alternatively, varying line widths in your detailing might help achieve the same effect. :)

I’ve always wanted to become a comic artist since I was a kid, and I’ve learned a lot. But I always can learn more.
