Exciting Times Ahead
Just wanted to take a moment to say how excited I am about where this community is heading. There is a huge amount of content on the way covering everything from networking fundamentals and Windows Server through to Linux, cloud, automation, security and beyond. New courses and articles are being added every single day and we are only just getting started. But honestly the content is only part of it. What I am most excited about is building a community where sysadmins at every level can come together, share ideas, help each other out and grow. Whether you are just starting out in IT or you have been doing this for years, there is something incredibly valuable about being surrounded by people who get it. People who understand the late night troubleshooting sessions, the satisfaction of finally cracking a problem that had you stumped for days, and the constant drive to keep learning in an industry that never stands still. That is what I want this place to be. Not just a course library but a genuine community where we all make each other better. I am really glad you are here. Let's build something great together. 💪 Drop a comment below and let me know what topic or course you are most looking forward to seeing added. 👇 — Dan

First Two Courses Are Now Live — And They're Completely Free
Really excited to share that the first two courses in the Sysadmin Training classroom are now posted and available to all members, free tier and premium alike. https://www.skool.com/sysadmin-training-5292/classroom Here's what's up: Course 1 — What Is a Sysadmin? If you're new to IT or just starting to explore whether system administration is the right path for you, this is your starting point. We cover what the role actually involves day-to-day, the technologies you'll be working with, the career paths available, and why it's one of the most solid and in-demand careers in the industry. No technical knowledge needed, just curiosity. Course 2 — Homelabs This one is for everyone, beginners and working sysadmins alike. We walk through what a homelab is, why every serious sysadmin should have one, and how to get yours up and running without spending a fortune. I've also included a tour of my own lab setup and a full breakdown of your virtualisation platform options so you can make the right choice for your situation. New content is being added regularly. My classroom is going to keep growing so there's always something new to work through. If you're just joining us, start with Course 1 and work your way through. If you're already in IT and just want to get your lab sorted, jump straight into Course 2. Drop a comment below and let me know which one you're starting with 👇 — Dan

Quick poll for the Linux learners in here
When you first started learning Linux, which distro did you begin with? Would love to know what people started on and whether you stuck with it or moved on to something else.

Cloud Providers
Would you spend time learning AWS or Azure right now?

Great question and one I get asked a lot. Honestly it depends on what your organisation uses or what environment you are targeting in your job search. If you are working in or moving into a Microsoft heavy environment, Azure is the natural next step, it connects directly to everything you are already learning with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365. If the roles you are going after lean toward AWS, then that is where your time is better spent. For most sysadmins coming from a Windows background though, Azure tends to be the easier entry point. Either way cloud skills are in high demand right now. You cannot go wrong investing time in both eventually, just start with whichever aligns with where you want to work.
