@Karin Crawford I get that ick feeling too! Every single time I see my images being used on Skool to promote someone else's community, or someone approaching me with offers to make children's books using my name, my images, and my personal story, my heart sinks. Especially when they bring my Memoir Skool into it. I love supporting others, but genuine friendships and connections mean so much more to me than being someone else's marketing opportunity. But then I realized something. This isn't Hollywood and the modeling industry I grew up in. We're in a whole new era where we put our pictures, our stories, and our work out there for the world to see. And like they say, any publicity is good publicity! 😂 I'm learning to look at things a little differently. As far as the ick feeling you're describing with affiliate links, I'm really not sure because I'm just barely learning how affiliate links work myself! It's a whole new world for me, too!
🎬 I Went Looking Through My Archives… and Found an Entire Chapter ❤️
In the past year since I joined Skool, I’ve written 39 chapters of my memoir, I Escaped Hollywood, Barely. 📖❤️ And every time I think, Cristal, surely you have enough stories now 😂… another one comes back. Something beautiful has been happening lately, too. My daughter-in-law has been spending more time with me, and she loves hearing my stories. She’ll ask me questions, and suddenly I’m telling her something I haven’t thought about in years. And then she started helping me find things. ❤️ There was one photograph from Japan that has stayed in my mind forever. I modeled for Olive magazine, and when Tokyo Disneyland opened, I did a huge feature—19 pages and the cover, which I shared with another model. And somewhere in those pages was the photograph I always remembered: Me kissing Mickey Mouse. ❤️🐭🇯🇵 I had wanted to see that photograph again for so long. And we found it. That’s what is happening while I write this memoir. A photograph comes back. Someone asks me a question. I find a piece of footage. One memory opens the door to another. And most recently, I found my original CBS Scarlett O’Hara screen test. 🎬 I watched those 1 minute and 24 seconds, and the memories started pouring back—Malibu, what I wore, how I felt, the excitement surrounding the Search for Scarlett. And suddenly my 39-chapter memoir had chapter 40: The Search for Scarlett ❤️ This is exactly why I'm not ready to edit yet. My story is still talking to me. Right now, I'm writing it RAW and unedited inside my Memoir Skool, and I'm creating visual images to accompany these memories as they return. There will be a time to polish it, organize it, and turn it into the finished book. But I'm not there yet. Right now, I'm remembering. ❤️📖 And maybe that's part of writing our stories too—sometimes the people who love us start asking questions, and they help us remember pieces of ourselves we didn't even realize were waiting to be found. Has someone you love ever asked you a question that suddenly brought back a story you hadn't thought about in years? ❤️✨

@Lisa Vanderveen Oh my goodness, this touched my heart. ❤️🙏 THIS is why I get so overwhelmed sometimes by the people God has brought into my life here. We somehow chose each other, found each other, and I truly believe God had His hand in it. I absolutely LOVE what you said about the questions you ask yourself and the Holy Spirit during your Quiet Times. ❤️ Sometimes one little question can unlock something that has been sitting inside us for decades. And PLEASE start writing in that book your daughter-in-love gave you! 😭❤️ What an incredible gift—not just for you, but someday for the people who love you and will treasure those stories. Praise God for bringing such incredible people into my life. I thank Him for it every single day. 🙏❤️ And thank YOU for sharing this with me. It means more than you know.
“Turtling Up”
@Ashley Welch just asked her community, “The Build Lab” what members do in a certain situation and shared that her mom called what she does, “Turtling Up” Such a great name for this and I was inspired by her question to share what I do and also led to me sharing what I did over the weekend … All of it together felt like WAY more than needed to be in my little comment, so I came here to share my weekend project: I switched up three big areas of my home and have been organizing all the chaos that erupted since Sunday and it feels AWESOME!! I’ll take pictures when I’m done but in a nutshell, our dream is to tear down our house and build new but if we can wait a few years it might make sense to subdivide in order to get some extra money to help with building costs. So I don’t want to spend more than I absolutely need to in order to make our home cozy again after waiting six years for permission to subdivide and then having the housing market be in the dumps…. We could be spending a LOT to renovate/paint something that will hopefully be torn down in a couple years. But since I’ve decided we’re no longer going to live like we are dirt poor with paint chipping and gouges out of walls, cupboard doors falling because I don’t want to spend any time, effort or money while we’re in limbo, I jumped into this project with just a tape measure and some vague ideas! After my hubby and two youngest kids left for church on Sunday, I asked my 19 year old son to help me figure out if we could switch a built in bookcase from my daughter’s room into the Master bedroom and give her our full size beautiful bookcase from our room cause she didn’t like the built ins and I wanted the extra shelving space for organizing my stuff. Since one of our big office desks has been sitting essentially unused except for filing documents and being resting place for clothes that have been worn but are not yet ready for laundry, I decided that to switch my rectangular office desk with this bigger “L” shaped desk.

I LOVE “Turtling Up!” 😂❤️ I absolutely understand that feeling of needing to retreat into your own space and start moving things around until everything feels right again. And I love that you felt the Holy Spirit whisper, “Today is the day.” Sometimes that prompting doesn’t come with a detailed plan—you just start with what’s in front of you and the next step becomes clear. ❤️ My weekend was much quieter, but I’ve been doing some reflecting and rediscovering old memories lately, which has been its own kind of organizing—just organizing pieces of my LIFE instead of rooms! 😂📸❤️ I can’t wait to see your finished spaces, especially that sky-scene wall for your brand photos! 🙌✨

@Lisa Vanderveen Oh my goodness, yes!! 😆❤️ I can’t wait until you have your space by the window again so we can do your next photo shoot! 📸 And what a beautiful gift from the Holy Spirit to catch that glimpse at exactly the right moment. 🙏❤️ The sky can change so quickly—it’s amazing that you captured the inspiration you needed for your painting before it completely transformed!
