Strategies to Manage all the Elements
One of my biggest struggles with gamificatuon is keeping track of all the numbers... the XP, the leaderboard/levels, the health, the resources, the cards etc etc. Right now I'm relying on student honesty and for them to track their own health, money etc, and I'm keeping track of other aspects on a spreadsheet. I would love to hear any strategies you've found that work well for keeping track of everything and any ideas you have on automating it!

@Scott Hebert I have a few job postings in the works right now! I have them self tracking health right now, but Im pretty sure there is a ton of cheating going on! Haha. Do you just use an excel sheet?

Module #5 - Team Dynamics 🤼
Adventurer, You learned about how team dynamics and the costs that accompany them! Based on that, here are to questions for you to consider! (1) Master Heebs warns us of the three costs of a shared quest: The Coordination Toll (logistics/energy), The Motivation Toll (sloths/dominators), and The Intellectual Toll (conformity/groupthink). Which of these three tolls do you find is the most "expensive" or difficult to manage in your own classroom guilds, and what is your favorite strategy to overcome it? AND (2) At the end of our latest encounter, Master Heebs calls designing effective group work a "rebellion" against the scholars who worship independent toil. Have you ever faced resistance—from administration, parents, or even the students themselves—when implementing group quests? How do you convince the "ivory tower" that we are stronger together?

1) As a recovering over achiever who 100% commandeered all group projects going through school and double checked that everyone's contribution was sufficient and filling in all the gaps when necessary... I definitely find group work a challenge to teach. I was not so good at it as a student, so its tough for me. Definitely thr Sloths and Dominators are a challenge and I am just tiptoing into the water, so I dont have a ton to offer for overcoming. That said, I do love this idea and I can totally see how it can work to make things better. After I went through this module I decided that I would try a "Guild Essay" for my final Romeo and Juliet project. I'm going to let them work in their guilds and they will have to discuss the topic and decide on a position and then each be responsible for 1 paragraph that includes a quote/citation. To be able to effectively write it they will need a cohesive idea, but individual work. As collaboration is actually in our outcomes for English I will give them 2 marks for the project - one that is for their individual creation of the text and one that is for how well they were able to collaborate. I am looking forward to see what they come up with! 2) I have definitely spent the last several years in the ivory tower, but I'm climbing down the stairs now and looking forward to the adventure!
The Blacksmith ⚒️
Welcome to the Blacksmith Shop 👋🏻 In this area, you can post any questions or issues regarding materials, links, graphics, or anything else that isn't working properly. Please understand, especially if you are an early joiner, that I am trying to build a very engaging and fun community. I am learning—more or less teaching myself—how to do all of this by creating graphics, apps, quizzes, puzzles, password-protected files, and so on. With all that in mind, there are bound to be an error or two. Posting them here will allow me to troubleshoot them ASAP so everything can run smoothly for everyone! Thanks! -Master Heebs ✒️

Gamification Tool Kit? 🧰
Hello adventurers! A thought crossed my mind today that I just want to toss out here for some discussion. If I were create a physical "Gamification Tool Kit" to help educators implement gamification with a set of ready to use tools/resources/consumables ... what would you like to see in it? What would be useful? Some basic ideas I have are: - A base set of reward and punishment cards - 1-2 Sets of TTRGP Dice (D4, D6, etc...) - A dice tower / dice rolling mat - A lock box, or equivalent - Scratch off foil papers - Timers - Physical tokens / items - Dry Erase Cards Of course it would go hand in hand with some activities, guides, written resources and so on. Always something I've wanted explore (in a preliminary fashion) so I figure, why not ask and see where it takes me? I look forward to the discussion! -Master Heebs ✒️

I totally would love that! That'sthe biggest hurdle I'm finding is getting all my ducks in a row for those pieces. Being able to have some ready card packs etc would be amazing. A starter kit with those things would make it so much easier to get started. Then teachers wouldn'thave to hunt down all the pieces.

I actually have a bunch of those pieces in my Amazon or Temu cart 😄 but getting it all in place would be so much easier and would have saved me so much time!
