I got my book today!
WOW! It's no longer an idea, or a concept. It's a book! I'm ready for this next phase of my life. I wouldn't have been able to do this the help of my friends at BookLaunchers!
I got my book today!
@Joe Denman Congratulations! What an incredible feeling that must be, to finally hold in your hands something that once existed only as an idea. You should be really proud of yourself for bringing it to life. What’s the first thing you’re hoping this next chapter brings you?
PLEASE HELP! Your file contains insufficient bleed.
I just published two new workbooks on Amazon KDP at the beginning of June 2026. I originally had no issues with uploading and publishing my original manuscript. Since my launch I went back to update my manuscript to include a link for a review, the ISBN number and I fixed a couple typos. I'm getting extremely frustrated because I have edited and re-uploaded over 5 times now and I cannot get approved. The email says "Your file contains insufficient bleed." I have redone my margins, moved text and images around and I even did a live chat with an amazon kdp agent and still cannot get approval. The agent told me to resize my original file (I created it in canva) from and 8.5' by 11' to 8.62 to 11.25 which I did and still did not get approved. I am at a loss. It's very frustrating because it was approved the first time and now it's not. Please help.
@Sarah Mascarenas I’ve published five books so far. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I’m always learning from each one. How have your three books been doing in terms of reaching readers, and which one has connected with people the most?
@Sarah Mascarenas That’s honestly a great start, especially with over 80 organic sales without much paid advertising or a large social media audience. You should definitely be proud of that progress. I write science fiction, and thankfully, my sales have been going well too. I’ve been using a few marketing strategies that have helped me generate sales organically, and I’m still learning and refining them as I go. If you’re interested, would you like me to share a few of the marketing strategies I’ve been using?
What to offer as a lead magnet?
For my books in the personal growth / therapy niche I had set up free mini-courses. For the exercises I provided guided versions per audio streams, videos and dedicated forums. Some years ago this worked pretty well. Not anymore. Only very few people sign up and nobody posts into the forum. I wonder, maybe what I offer is to much for a free mini course? Maybe the readers sense a sort of dissonance between "free" and what I provide? Maybe they would feel another kind of commitment if I would ask for say 27 Dollars and then they actually would use the forum?'Maybe they kind of think: "I have so much free stuff that I signed up for and never looked at it. It is not worth it." When I consider this I get the idea to split this in two: A free series of.videos (without exercises and without forum) and a paid mini-course with exercises, group coaching and forum. What do you think? What is your experience?
@Demian zur Strassen I think your instinct to separate the free entry point from the deeper paid experience makes a lot of sense. It may not be that the free content is “too much,” but that when everything is offered upfront, people don’t necessarily have a clear reason to take the next step or engage with it. I’d be tempted to make the free offer much smaller and outcome-focused something that gives them a meaningful win, while naturally making the paid course feel like the next step rather than simply “more content.” The exercises, group coaching, and forum could then become part of the transformation they’re investing in, rather than additional free resources they feel guilty about not using. I’d also be cautious about assuming that charging $27 alone will create engagement; the positioning and perceived outcome probably matter more than the price. Have you tested a very small free offer with one specific outcome before changing the whole course structure?
Barnes & Noble
Does anyone have experience selling with Barnes & Noble? My editor has a clause in his publishing contract that states they destroy books and charge back revenue to the author and publisher if they don’t sell. This seems wild to imagine. Seeking insight on what others have experienced. Thank you!! 🙏🏽
@Stella Nahatis Thanks for telling me to check Kevin's response. That's really helpful to know. I hadn't thought about how expensive the return shipping on unsold books could get, so choosing the destroy option makes a lot of sense. Have you been happy with that decision so far?
@Stella Nahatis That’s great to hear. I’m glad everything has been working smoothly for you so far. What’s been your favorite part of it?
Greetings from Montana
1. My book topic is: I have two books in the works. A mini-book about equitation science for therapists and a ethics workbook for equine assisted mental health. 2. I’m currently in the stage of: foramtting and editing. 3. My biggest challenge right now is: Time and money. 4. My goal over the next 30 days is: keep breathing.
@Natalie Norrell Hi from the other side of the map! Your projects sound incredibly meaningful, especially bringing equitation science and ethics into equine-assisted mental health. I smiled at your 30-day goal of "keep breathing"... I think a lot of us can relate to that. Which of your two books are you most excited to finally see finished first?
@Natalie Norrell I'm really glad to hear the mini book is almost there, I hope the funding for the editing and formatting comes together soon. And the ethics book sounds like it's taking the time it needs, which usually makes for an even stronger final version. As for me, I'm on the other side of the map in Italy, Milan to be precise. Have you always been based where you are, or is that somewhere life brought you?
