Which coaching niche should you pick?
A few years back, I had an interesting coaching call. My client was trying to build a business helping "modern-day mystics." You know... coaches, energy practitioners, Reiki masters, tarot readers. The whole spiel. She was teaching them about manifestation, energy work, and living in "love and light." Only one problem... When I asked about her results... It was a mixed bag. See, people in her market learned all these spiritual techniques... Got excited about uncovering "the truth" about who they are... Started doing readings... And really felt like they'd figured out life. But nothing was ACTUALLY changing in their life. On the other hand… She also mentioned how she'd helped two women going through divorce. And these clients got REAL results. But she was resistant to that market. So went over the pros and cons together… Because someone going through divorce has a VERY specific pain point. It's clear. It's urgent. It's measurable. Where there is the most pain... that's where you'll find the most solution. But teaching "spiritual manifestation?" How do you even measure that? When do you know it's working? What's the specific before and after? I’m not saying it can’t be done. But the reality is some transformations are harder to sell than others. Your market needs to hook onto something REAL. Something they can understand. Something that shows them you actually "get" their problem. And sometimes the best niche isn't the one you WANT... It's the one staring you right in the face. The one where you're already getting results. Funny thing is… Once you help someone through something concrete like divorce... THEN they're ready for the spiritual work. But trying to do it the other way around? That's a much harder path.

@Ed JC Smith I am not sure if the niche I want to work in is too crowded already. I want to be a life coach, helping others to find purpose. What you think @Ed JC Smith ?

Having THIS will save your coaching career Inbox
Here's a tip that will save you from a ton of heartache in your career as a coach… Before you jump into taking on clients, make sure you have a proven structure to follow (or you're setting yourself up for failure). For example: I've been in the coaching industry for over 20 years now. And I've watched a ton of coaches try to "wing it" with their clients... Showing up to each session with nothing but good intentions and generic coaching questions. Back in the day, you could get away with this. The industry was new... Expectations were lower... And clients were just happy to have someone listen to them. However, those days are LONG gone. The reality is that coaching without a proven structure in 2025 is like trying to build a house without blueprints. Sure, you might get lucky... But most likely you'll end up with a mess. And there's another reality you need to be aware of... The coaching industry isn't the unregulated Wild West it used to be. Clients are getting smarter... They're doing their research... And they're not interested in coaches who are just "figuring it out" as they go. They want someone with real skills... Someone who knows exactly what they're doing... And has the experience (and results) to back it up. This is why having a proven structure is so crucial. Because without one... You'll struggle to get results for your clients... Which means they won't stick around... Which means they definitely won't refer their friends... Which means your coaching business will slowly die. This is more common than you might think. Good coaches... with good intentions... but no real system to follow. And eventually they give up... Thinking coaching "just isn't for them." When really... They just needed a proven structure to follow. This is actually why we are getting the Expert Coach program ICF certified. And certifying our Relationship You Deserve coaches... Not just teaching the system... But actually GIVING our students real clients to work with...

I need to get clients!!
And then she was gone
Sometimes life hits you with moments that make you pause and reflect. Earlier this week, my business partner Dave and I attended a funeral for our childhood friend's mum. We've known him since we were three… so that's over 40 years of having her in our lives. Even though we hadn't seen them in probably over 10 years (they live far away now), the second we heard the news, we knew we had to be there. It was surreal being surrounded by all the parents who raised us. These people played such a huge part in our early childhood and adolescent years. She was one of those mums who treated everyone's kids like her own… The kind who'd discipline you when needed, patch up your scraped knees, and make sure you were fed and looked after. Being there at the funeral… I couldn’t help but reflect on how these relationships shape us. How the person you become is built by all these small moments, all these people who pour their love and guidance into your life. And then, just like that... they're gone. It makes you think about the relationships you have in your current life… The people who are still here, still shaping who you are, still allowing you to be who you are and do the things you do. All I’ll say is… Don't take them for granted.
