Perceptions of Stretching Intensity
Researchers explored something we all rely on in yoga: How do people judge stretch intensity? - Internal perception = “I feel a stretch here” / “this is my edge” - External perception = a teacher/therapist feeling “tension” in the body They compared the two using: - Hamstring stretch (hip flexion) - Shoulder stretch (extension) This was a small sample size, young adults and only passive stretching was tested. Key findings (translated for yoga) 1. “Feel your stretch” is valid… but not perfect. You can’t assume you feel what they feel. 2. Experience changes everything. More trained / more flexible participants had better awareness of their true edge. 3. Stretch tolerance ≠ stretch sensation. The “Edge” is partly psychological, not just physical. 4. Upper body awareness is weaker 5. Consistency matters more than method What this really means for yoga teaching 1. “Go to your edge” needs better teaching. That cue is too vague for many students. 2. Beginners need guidance, not just freedom. 3. Hands-on assists are not neutral as you could take someone further than they’d choose. 4. Build stretch literacy. Flexibility is not just physical; It’s learned perception. So your teaching should include what they are feeling, where is the resistance?, etc. 5. Consistency beats complexity. Don’t confuse students with mixed signals

@Ann-See Yeoh Thank you - this will be useful in helping members to not force a stretch to maximum resistance and blocking the stretch 🙏

ACSM Resistance Training Position Stand
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has published a new Position Stand summarising resistance training recommendations for healthy adults; the first major update since 2009. Have a read, and certainly something to consider with KettleflowYOGA. https://journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/fulltext/2026/04000/american_college_of_sports_medicine_position.21.aspx

Honouring the Practice in a Pick-and-Mix World
Dear Teacher, We live in a time where movement practices are often shaped by trends. Where classes are blended, rebranded, and adapted to fit what’s popular or marketable. Where it’s easy to pick what we like… and quietly leave the rest behind. And yet, whether you teach yoga, Pilates, BODYBALANCE, or any form of mindful movement, there is still something deeper that sits underneath it all. A thread, a responsibility, perhaps a practice. This isn’t about following one lineage or doing things the “right” way. But it is about remembering that what we teach carries influence. How we guide people into their bodies, how we speak about effort and rest, how we hold space for breath, awareness, and change all matter. So, this month, I invite you to pause and reflect not just on what you’re teaching, but on how you’re holding it. Are you teaching from habit… or from intention? From performance… or from presence? From pressure… or from understanding? In a world that often rushes to simplify and sell…your depth is what sets you apart. You don’t need to be louder, and you don’t need to do more. You just need to stay rooted in what you believe this work is truly about. That’s what people feel. That’s what they remember, and that’s what keeps this work meaningful for you and for them. With respect for the path you walk, Ann-See xo

@Ann-See Yeoh Thank you creating many opportunities for us to meet and reflect on our teaching space and personal development. For me, this helps to create the depth and avoid mission creep 🌿

Flow - April 2026
@Ann-See Yeoh Thank you for the lesson plans and recordings. This looks so lovely. The philosophy is very interesting. How and why did you select the poses the intention please - for example, Curtsy Lunge, Warrior 3 and Side Plank please?

@Ann-See Yeoh Thank you. When you talk to hip mobility throughout the practice, is that to release the sluggishness and heaviness of the Kapha season?
