Can I learn Arabic?

So it occurs to me there are different ways to ask for confirmation. For example I might day “ were you a soldier before “ or I could say “ you were a soldier before, right?” They have a slightly different nuance. How should we incorporate this into our 123 matrix? Confirmation question (like English “…right?”) أنتَ كنتَ جنديًا من قبل، أليس كذلك؟ You were a soldier before, right? Or more informal: كنتَ جندي قبل… صح؟ You were a soldier before… right? 3 — Negation لم تكن جنديًا من قبل. You weren’t a soldier before

I might ramble a bit on this. I work a security guard at a university and today acted as a translator between a paramedic and a Chinese student. I noticed that the conversation directly followed the 123 matrix and that drilling this type of interview might be fruitful. It’s just my mandarin is kinda “on a break” and the content is a bit to advanced for my Arabic.

Several people mentioned in the Spanish thread that you struggle with the subjunctive. I do, too. I’m working on conversation phrases from subjunctive triggers that automatically use the subjunctive so I don’t have to think about if I have to use it. I’ve been working on one trigger phrase at a time until I become “fluent” with that trigger. I’ve been working on, avísame cuando…. “Let me know when…” I put a verb cup as an example. I think I have that one down well so now I’m working on Quiero que… or “I want you, her, them, us to…”. Here is a linguablox I made with the question, “What do you want me to do tomorrow?” and potential responses for “I want you to…”. For the linguablox, I used green for the subjunctive trigger and pink for the subjunctive verb. Have fun, experiment, and feel free to share.
