Today I got an interesting email with some inspiring tips. The first three tips on the list were: 1. Don't Quit 2. Learn Constantly 3. Actually Do Stuff Uh... sounds almost like something I say. Almost... Some people will tell you to "Never say 'Never'... Well, don't listen to those people. Those people are stupid. (Some of you may have noticed I've mentioned this a time or two before... or three... or four...) Well, I say, "Never, Never, Never!" 1. Never Give Up! Most people don't succeed simply because they give up. Giving up is easy. Success isn't. If it were, everyone would be successful. So if you want to be successful, don't give up! Success isn't about the final result. Success is about making it to the next level. Never think you're not good enough to make it to the next level! 2. Never Stop Learning! Never think you're not smart enough to learn something new. I once thought I couldn't mix or master because I didn't have the right equipment, or didn't have enough education, and so on... I had to break past that barrier. You can too! Never think you're so smart there isn't anything else to learn. I've been writing, composing, recording, and producing for over 25 years and I'm still learning! There's always something new to learn. For example, sometimes I'll read or watch a tutorial on a topic I'm well versed in. And at first glance, I'm like, "Oh, I know this.." But then it becomes, "Oh, I know how to do this, but I didn't know why that worked until just now. Now I get it!" If I would have just stopped with "Oh, I know this," I still wouldn't know the why. A person who thinks they know everything is incapable of learning anything. That's why Know-It-Alls become Dumb-At-All! 3. Never Stop Practicing! The only way you can ever get better at something is to keep doing it. Michael Jordan didn't become a pro basketball player by binge-watching basketball on TV. He went out and played basketball! You're not going to get good at something just by binge-watching tutorials on your computer. You need to do the actual work and put what you're learning into practice!
