Retention = Recruiting Insurance. I have hired over 1k people in 20 years and this one action has saved me more money, time, and frustration than anything else in my business. 👉 Stat: 63% of workers who quit their jobs said they didn't see a future at their current place of employment. Pew Research Center. As a leader, it is our job to build that future. Most business owners don't realize the number one role of the CEO or founder is visionary. So here is the one thing that has had the most dramatic impact on my business as it relates to people. It is also the reason that my current team has been with me in two other companies. 👉The Rockstar Vision Meeting 🚀 Purpose: to create a win-win vision of the future between the employee and the company . Product: an employee who knows more of what they want out of life and how your company is going to help them achieve it Your Role: 1. To serve as a steward between the employee and the company, making sure both people are clear and win. 2. The visionary that helps builds a powerful future. 3. A coach to help the team member discover what they want out of life. 👉Steps 1. Scheduled time with the key employee off-site. This can be at lunch, a dinner, or a local park. It is vital to change the environment to allow for creativity, connection, and ultimately the coaching that is required. 2. Express gratitude for the employee, both in terms of statistics and in terms of cultural contribution. 3. Communicate that they are being brought into the inner circle of your vision planning for the company because you see a company that has a future with them in it. 4. Ask them what they want out of their future, and get ready for the fact that most people have no idea. 5. Coach them into identifying what it is they want out of life. This can be done through the "Be, Do, Have" framework (see document). 6. Continue to develop their future with them until you find a connection between Where the company is going and where they now clearly see where they want to go 7. Document the meeting and review on a bi-annual basis

Great insights here! Building a shared vision with employees is one of the most overlooked leadership practices. I really like the idea of the “Rockstar Vision Meeting.” When leaders take time to understand what their team members want not just professionally, but personally, it creates a much deeper level of commitment and trust. People don’t only stay for salaries—they stay where they feel seen, valued, and growing. That Pew Research statistic about 63% of employees leaving because they don’t see a future really says a lot. Too often, organizations focus on short-term performance but forget to invest in long-term employee aspirations. What stands out most in your approach is the win–win mindset: aligning the company’s direction with the individual’s life goals. When employees clearly see how their growth connects to the organization’s future, retention becomes much more natural. Leaders who act as visionaries and coaches, not just managers, build stronger teams and healthier cultures. Thank you @Will Humphreys and the whole VR Team! You’re the best! Thanks for sharing such a practical strategy—this is a reminder that retention starts with conversation, clarity, and genuine leadership. 🚀
