It occurred to me today while people were discussing CineGear on the call that it might be fun and productive to do an in-person meetup in the LA area at some point this summer. Seems like we'd have a critical mass of folks in this greater region. The same might be said of NYC. I wind up traveling out there for jobs a few times a year and it would be cool to talk shop with anyone who's around if schedules permit.

Today’s Thursday meet up
Who's joining today? I’ve gotten a lot of feedback on my “freelancing” posts. So today I wanted to get into what you can do right now as a freelancer to get more traction and keep it. Managing a freelance career can be challenging, and very rewarding. But if you’re not approaching it with real strategy, it can also be inconsistent. Join us at 10am PT and tell us what you think. Links in the calendar.

This was a good session. I wasn't able to chime in because I was on the move, but it was valuable to listen. One of the "yes, and" challenges I'd like to explore in the future is... once you have a small company/studio (as I do) what are some of the actionable strategies people are putting in place to avoid falling into the trap of still behaving like a freelancer? As in: doing too many things yourself, not properly accounting for the reality of overhead (even if it's small) and learning to delegate in the correct places to protect your time vs trying to offload *too* much, spending appropriately to pay talented professionals fairly for their work on your project, and then winding up cannibalizing your own margin.
