For my very short memoir about my blind cat Lydia, I just needed to tell her story, to show that her life mattered. I also tell the story of a few other cats, and all their lives mattered. Even if no one reads it I feel that I am honoring them by this act of writing. I also believe that the story itself can help others grieving the loss of their pet. But also about belonging, being chosen, being accepted whether you have disabilities or not. And, I kept circling back to this story over and over again. When my life got upended and I absolutely could not write, I pretty much abandoned my sci-fi and fantasy stories -- even though they are great escapes, I could not form the words to write -- but this story kept tugging at my heart and despite everything, I wrote.
