Printing Costs
I just got a quote back from Color House Graphics, which was recommended by other kid lit authors, and i will share it below. At these prices, and additional shipping, it's actually cheaper and faster to print from Ingram Spark. Sigh. I thought this was going to be a better deal. :( My unit price for Ingram is the same- like $4.25/each (with shipping and tax included), even when i just ordered 25 books, so...why bother going elsewhere? Am I missing something? Thoughts? Is this way better quality or something? 32 Pages + 4 Page Cover Final Size : 8.5 x 8.5 At customer discretion, provide print-ready PDF files for text and cover or use job PDF files IF archived at CHG. CHG to supply soft proofs (.pdf) of text and cover for approval 10pt C1S 100lb gloss white coated (house), 438 P.P.I. (P.P.I. is approximate) 4/0 (process colors) plus gloss layflat film lamination on printed side 4/4 (process colors) with bleeds, medium to heavy coverage PUR Perfect Bound on 8.5" side, bulk pack in standard cartons to convenient count. Color House Graphics, Inc., all shipping is additional. Quantity Total Price Unit Price 150 $630.81 $4.2054 250 $966.93 $3.8677 500 $1,803.54 $3.6071 +/- 5% constitutes acceptable delivery & is billable at the 'Unit Price' shown above Additional $.50 per text page ($95 minimum) for CHG to supply and express ship 1 set of full-color booked text proofs and 1 digital color cover proof for approval. Approximate standard ground package shipment to a residential address at zip code 95448 would be: 150 @ $52; 250 @ $93; 500 @ $189

I guess this would absolutely depend on what the paper and cover are in comparison to IngramSpark. Is it possible to get one printed proof before going with a full wholesale order or see if they could at least send you a sample book with the options you picked? I can say that it looks like CHG is offering a much better page paper. IngramSpark's pages are not glossy. I have NOT been happy with my proofs from them so far. Ordered another set of proofs with the higher quality paper, so we'll see, but in comparison to my books I got through an independent printer, I hate how the IngramSpark proofs have turned out.

Converting to Ebook / File Size
Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm almost done with a few free printables to list on my book brand site (still under construction, hoping this next week it will go live), as well as my first book made into an Ebook. My question is, for those of you that have made your children's paperback book into an ebook, how did you keep your ebook file size low? What is an appropriate download size? I am thinking to go into photoshop and resize/optimize all backgrounds to lower res, but curious to see what y'all have done. Secondly, I'm not sure I understand exactly how to offer the ebook as a free download for limited time. Does that have to go thru Amazon KDP for free download or can I just link the book on my site ( sorry, newbie, be kind)..

I followed this guide for making my eBook file: https://youtu.be/d6yfYBmu0DU?si=6i-SCYT-sSy2qRME I didn't use Amazon KDP for publishing my book, instead, I went with IngramSpark to distribute my eBook through other platforms like B&N and Amazon, but I don't know how to get the eBook to be free that way. I shared my eBook through my website via Wordpress/WooCommerce. I give a coupon code to download for free on social media and include a direct-to-download link for those signing up for my email newsletter. I am comfortable with this as I have copyrighted my book and am comfortable playing with different file formats to share openly. Sorry I don't have more answers on the KDP side. Hopefully someone else here can chime in.
