Why Forgetting Someone Is Hard
I was moved to write this by a post from @Diego Kang. When we think of concepts like romantic love, attraction, friendship etc. they are just that...faceless concepts. Then, a person comes along who becomes the face of that concept. Neuro-science has proven that when we remember something or someone, we are not actually remembering them. We are remembering the last time we remembered them. That's why memories gradually change over time. Like a photocopy of a photocopy times 1000. Errors creep in. When our concept of, say attraction, gets the face of a person, it is very difficult for our mind to disconnect the two and go back to attraction being a faceless concept. It does not know how to edit them out of the photocopy. Now enter a new person we are attracted to. Suddenly THEY become the face of the concept and they replace the old face. Replacement like this is not the only way to disconnect the two, but in my experiences, it is the most common. The reason is that other methods tend to take a very long time and involve shifting both the conscious and subconscious mind. Most of the time, we meet someone else before that happens.

Also, we can build up someone in our own mind as something they aren't with idolizing them. Until you live with someone and REALLY get to know them, we can have a picture of them that doesn't represent all of them with who they are. As an example, in my youth having friends I absolutely adored and we got along very well. Then, we became roommates and everything shifted as I saw parts of them that they would normally mask as living with someone pulls back the curtain like in the Wizard of Oz. New reality standing right in front of you and plot twist. Now you suddenly no longer have the curated and rehearsed version of someone. Things end, and sometimes it is a matter of letting go of the anger or the hurt from the version that you did not like. This also can look like if you have a crush on someone and have feelings for them, it can be you are idolizing a version of them in your mind that doesn't fully exist. Your mind is forever trying to solve unresolved things, and this can make it hard to forget someone. I remember idolizing my first love and was just devastated and for years it was the one that got away... untill... I realized he wasn't anything like what I had built him up to be in my mind and he actually was not that great of a human being, then I suddenly no longer thought of them anymore and he was not "the one who got away" any longer.

You Can Reset The Subconscious Mind
"Are we running our lives with conscious mind, or are we running our lives with the subconscious programs? Well, it turns out, science has revealed that only 5% of the day are we operating our nervous system using the conscious mind's creative wishes and desires. 95% of the day, our life is coming straight out of the programs in our subconscious." This changes everything! We are so Powerful! 💥 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OqLT_CNTNYA&ra=m

We absolutely can re-set our sub conscience and neuroscience is proving it. We can starve out old neuropathways and build new ones. The thing is consistency with doing this and starving out bad habits, fears, etc. And doing healthier things that make us grow as human beings. Neuroplasticity is real and I am thankful for it.
Hey, need advice
how to stop thinking about a girl who likes someone else? I'm close friends with her and i dont want to lose her as a friend. I'm not wrecked over it or anything because I didnt allow myself to get too attached but I sometimes feel a little bit sad that we cant be together because theres someone else already in the picture. Shes an amazing person and I'm happy for her and the guy shes talking to

Just remind yourself that God/The Universe has someone even better for you than this person. I know you think this is the right one, but if they are, they will find you and things will unfold when timing is right. In the mean time, get yourself out there, have some fun, and don't sit around waiting for this person. Get out of your own head and things will sort out.

@Diego Kang I know it's hard. But one way to look at it is that this person might need the life lesson with this other person so they can appreciate you later, or maybe they aren't meant for you at all. God/The Universe saw things you did not see, heard conversations you did not hear. This is why they call it a "crush" because it can hurt.

I've always loved the concept of unconditional love but as life went on, I've learned that love is conditional except maybe with the divine/God that loves us all unconditionally. Here's an excerpt from Duck Duck Go AI. Understanding Unconditional Love Unconditional love is often viewed as a pure and limitless form of affection. However, many experts argue that it is more of a concept than a reality, especially in adult relationships. Conditions in Adult Relationships In adult relationships, love typically involves certain conditions, such as: - Mutual Respect: Both partners must respect each other's boundaries. - Healthy Boundaries: Love should not justify disrespectful behavior or abuse. - Value Exchange: Love often requires some form of value or support from both parties. These conditions are essential for maintaining a healthy relationship. Without them, love can become meaningless or even harmful. The Reality of Love The idea that love can exist without any conditions is challenged by several factors: - Meaning and Value: Love that has no conditions may lack significance. Conditions help define the relationship and give it meaning. - Behavioral Expectations: While one can love someone deeply, certain behaviors may lead to reevaluation of that love. For example, consistent disrespect or harmful actions can strain or end a relationship. - Parental Love: While parental love is often cited as unconditional, it still involves expectations for the child's behavior and well-being. Parents love their children but also set boundaries to guide them. Conclusion Overall, the notion of unconditional love is often seen as unrealistic in adult relationships. Love typically requires conditions that foster respect, boundaries, and mutual support, making it a more complex and nuanced emotion than the idea of unconditional love suggests.
