In many shamanic and Indigenous traditions, there's an understanding that when we experience trauma, wounding, or profound pain, parts of our vital essence may retreat into the unseen realms to protect themselves. We can leave pieces of ourselves in old relationships. Slivers of our truth can remain frozen in moments of childhood fear. Our wildness, joy, innocence, and aliveness can become scattered across the landscape of our past. This is sometimes described as soul fragmentation; the experience of moving through life disconnected from parts of ourselves and operating at only a fraction of our true power. But what has been fragmented can be retrieved, welcomed, and woven back into the wholeness of who we are. Soul retrieval is the fierce and sacred act of reclaiming your sovereignty. It is the journey of entering your inner world, finding the parts of you that have been waiting in the shadows, taking them gently by the hand, and breathing them home.
