I was so happy to listen to your latest podcast episode with your thoughts on lunging. I’ve been seeing it more and more at the barn where we board our horses, and being new to the horse world, something about it seemed very confusing to me. When I heard you speak about it I thought, “yes, that’s what I couldn’t quite put my finger on but you said it perfectly.” I knew it wouldn’t be my go-to before a ride, but I saw so many people following the trainer’s advice and then expressing that “it worked.” Your ten-minute Tuesday experiment really resonated with me, as I’m a big fan of the Masterson Method. I did your experiment before my Friday lesson, and even got some licking and chewing, and it felt like a peaceful way to start the ride, in a regulated way. Thank you!
Exercises from the Podcast!
Last week's podcast episode about the inside leg to outside rein connection had 3 exercises in it. I've uploaded those individually for your viewing pleasure and discussion. I'd love to know how these exercises go for you!

I tried the passive riding experiment again today. 😊 This was the 4th or 5th time. Each time he starts off going in a tight circle to the right, then he heads straight for the gate. Today my daughter was also in the ring, so before he tried the gate, he made a beeline for her on her horse, and I redirected him when he got too close (my daughter didn't like this!) and then he walked up to her again. After that, it was straight to the gate. This is pretty typical of him, ever since I've started trying this exercise.

I had a lesson on Friday and it just happened that my trainer focused on transitions, so I had lots of opportunities to do the breathing exercises. I definitely had to focus on it, it doesn’t come naturally, but it really seemed to make a difference and I can see how if I keep at it, it’ll be very beneficial!
Podcast episode 64
I just listened to the latest episode and after hearing you talk about the camp/retreat/experience in June, I’m even MORE excited, which I didn’t know was possible! You touched on all the things I want to work on with my horse. I bought a trailer and practiced driving all day yesterday. This will certainly be an adventure for me. Can’t wait!
Video on “freely forward horse”
This is an awesome video, and it includes a lot of the concepts I’ve been working on, so I’m really excited to have your instruction in June! You describe this horse dropping his shoulder in to the left and his imbalance there, and that’s my biggest struggle with my horse, but to the right. I too have him worked on regularly by an osteopath and Masterson practitioner, as you said you do, so that was interesting to hear. Around the 4:00 mark you’re saying you really exaggerate the correction and push that shoulder up. Could you clarify what exactly you’re doing? You’re using your inside leg at the girth and adding a squeeze until he gets the shoulder up? Nothing with the rein, right? Thank you!
