Clue 2 connundrum
I’m on re-start #3 and am away from home for a long weekend. I’ve just realised I forgot to bring the yarn I wanted to use as a highlight in the ‘woven’ section (rows 20-30) of Clue 2 and for my neckline. I’m away from home at a cozy cabin for 3 more days and was hoping to catch up on my knitting. Could I knit up to that section, save it on a spare cable, cast on clue 3 with scrap yarn, and graft those parts together with those missing 10 rows once I’m home? Or is that just crazy talk?

@Uschi Ott thank you! I realise it won’t be the most simple approach, but was hoping if I graft the ‘plain’ rows together, it might work, ok… I just wasn’t sure if I was going to be attempting the impossible
Rujuu MYAL FAQs
I am absolutely thrilled to see everyone getting stuck in and taking the stashbusting so seriously! This is exactly what I was hoping for. I’ve loved seeing all your questions and yarn combinations, and since a few topics keep popping up, I wanted to share a quick FAQ before Clue 1 comes out in a few days. I'll keep updating this post to add more questions if necessary. 👉 What does Rujuu mean? Rujuu (pronounced "roo-JOO", with emphasis on the second syllable) is based on an Arabic name meaning "Return." For me, this perfectly reflects how leftover and stash yarns can return to a new purpose, seen with fresh eyes to create something new. 👉 Why is the yardage so huge? - The yardage includes about 10% for swatching, which is a common practice in knitwear design. While this approach may need updating, it remains standard. Larger sizes don’t necessarily require larger swatches, so this is something to consider. - The estimate is based on schematic measurements, so if you have a shorter torso or sleeves, you’ll need less yarn. - I’ve added extra buffer to ensure no one runs out of yarn midway through a motif, as mentioned in the video. The estimate is intentionally generous. - Additionally, button bands are included in the yardage and typically use 30-40% of Colour D. If you’re making a pullover, you’ll need less of D. 👉 Is C the main colour? A is intended to be the main colour, but C is also used as main colour in some clues. C is also used in yarn-heavy techniques, such as slip stitches, where the idea of a "main colour" doesn’t apply. This is why there’s more of C. 👉 How are the colours used? - A: Used with C only; requires high contrast with C. - B: Used with C only; should have some contrast with C and must not be the same yarn as C, though it can be the same yarn as A. - C: Used with A and B; you can use multiple colours for C or a colour-changing yarn as long as it maintains high contrast with A. For example, a range of shades from dark blue to dark red can work with a beige/grey A. - D: Used on its own; can be the same as any of the other colours.

I’m still trying to decide which colours will be A or C from my choices. I have a lighter colour and a darker colour, and I’m thinking the darker one should be more dominant at the bottom of the jumper while the lighter one should be more dominant at the top? (and the lighter one is more ‘my colour’ so maybe better for closer to my face?) But my B colour will probably ‘pop’ more against the darker colour. Should I make the lighter colour A or C? I was originally thinking A, since it can also be used for D (neckline, cuffs, etc), but from the clue it looks like there’s more C than A in the first part of the yoke. And, if I’m using the same colour for D, and want the neckline to match exactly whatever colour is directly below it, how much of my first yarn combo should I keep aside?
I can’t decide on my colours/yarns.
Two sets of colour combos pictured. Knitted these single strand, so it’s not to gauge (most will need doubled or will be combined with a lace weight/kidsilk for gauge). First Group: I have enough grey (Yarn Collective Fleurville 4 Ply), cream (hand spun 2 ply), and burgundy tweed (Debbie Bliss Fine Donegal) for them to be A or C. Grey and cream would be doubled with themselves, burgundy would probably be with a strand or 2 of kidsild haze, but maybe with itself. I have enough Rose (also Fleurville 4-ply) or mottled ‘tundra’ (Socknado Fingering) for either of them to be B or maybe D, but it would definitely be yarn chicken for them to be D. Rose would be doubled with itself. Tundra mottled would be doubled with the light gray. Second Group: Blue Tweed (Debbie Bliss Donegal luxury Tweed Aran) as A, Gold Tweed (Debbie Bliss Fine Donegal) with 1 strand kidsilk haze as B (I also had an orange in there, but I’m not sure I like it when knitted up), Burgundy Fine Donegal Tweed doubled or with kidsilk haze as C. I could add a Teal (Rowan cashsoft) in there for D, but not sure. I was originally thinking of going with the first combination of combo 1 - A grey, B rose and C cream. After knitting them up, it is a very pretty combo. But I am really liking combo 4 - A Grey, B Tundra + Grey, C Burgundy. Could maybe combine a deeper/darker grey with a strand of A grey for D. But is the mottled B distinct enough from A and C, since it has sections of both in it? The Blue grouping is fun too. But A and C are very similar intensities in greyscale. Another option, I just thought of as I was writing this is Grey A, gold B, Burgundy C with Tundra as D or combined with one strand of A for neckline down, or increasing intensity towards the bottom or something (maybe that’s what D is anyway?!?). Might knit that up and see what it’s like. I’d appreciate thought/feedback. On yarn choice as well as colours. This is my first time doing colour work/ stranded knitting other than some Christmas stockings many years ago. Would I be better off buying the correct weight yarns instead of combining and dealing with extra multi-strands on top of the multi strands of the pattern?
I can’t decide on my colours/yarns.

@Wendy Biccler I hadn’t thought of the dark red as A for some reason. Not sure why though. Will give that combo a try as a swatch! Thanks. :)

@Zoe Barraclough Thanks. They are fun colours - but hard to know what it will look like as a finished piece!
The Mystery Yokealong is back!
Our Mystery KAL is officially back for year three! We’re knitting a top-down round yoke sweater (or a steeked cardigan) together over seven weekly clues, kicking off on January 16th. This year, we’re leaning into stash-busting, so feel free to start hunting through your yarn collection now. You can get all the details on the Ravelry pattern page or here on Skool in the dedicated Classroom where I’ll also be posting all the relevant video tutorials as clues become available. We’d love for you to jump in and share your yarn picks, questions, and progress photos. Just use the "MYAL 2026" category for your posts. Heads up: we aren’t doing spoiler alerts this time, so feel free to post away in whatever way you like just as long as it is in that category! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with this year.

@Heather Bloom I was wondering if tweed-y yarns would work for this. Thank you for posting them - gives me way more options from my stash than I had thought :). Apparently I like the ‘tweed’ yarns 😂
