Steps for a new area
Observe first, start one small area well, build soil deeply, learn timing, then expand toward family food, fertility, berries, fruit, and storage.

I am trying raised beds this time. I put a wheel barrel of leaves in, then one of hay, then 6 bags of garden soil and 2 bags of compost. I put already started plants in with some marigold seeds. Its been a week with daily watering or rain. They so far are growing a lot. I'll be adding mulch after all the marigolds get bigger. They started fast and are already 1/2 inch tall. I don't think I'll ever go back to ground planting! In Tennessee, I'm planting some grape vines this weekend. I'll be moving my muscadine vine, blackberries, and raspberries in a year or so too. Until I move there, im watching out for growing patterns, growing things, and the sun and weather patterns. Im very happy I've got the chance to and at the beginning of the season too.
Land starting point
When we begin at a new property, it is not a blank slate. It already has pattern, flow, opportunity, and limits. It's our job to observe and sketch them out as early in the process as possible.

My husband just mowed down my wheat grass! It had the seed close to harvesting. His lawn mower is a dangerous tool for him to have. I've lost so many plants to it. Black walnut trees are not good for anything growing that I've found except unwanted vines. There are 2 at my place in Tennessee. 1 we'll have to cut down since it's 10 feet from the house. Its sad since it's so old. The other is beside the road so im leaving it. But I have found quite a few early spring plants so far. The lawn mower isn't allowed on this property until next year.

@Jim Flach I found a company called Azure standard yesterday and ordered. They have "drop off" locations where you can pick up your orders and the shipping is so cheap. You can even get your own drop off location. They had the tulsi and a few others I got. They have such a wide variety of everything! From gardening to household and more. I won't get it until the week of 4/12 though. The pri es were really good compared to the others I found and there's a few drop off points not too far from me. I'm attaching a screenshot of what I paid. I'll let everyone know how good this place is after i get the plants. Thank you though!

Are they medicinal or just aggressive?

Both. I've got many that are very aggressive but I don't like mowing and losing out on the medicinal things. I'm learning that if it is generally medicinal for something I don't really need, I'll let it go now.

@Jim Flach we've run a bushog over the Tennessee property so we could see what is there. It's been growing for years. I've found quite a few so far. Can't wait to see them all!
