I think that it's exciting when someone comes and wants to learn how to break, so I ask them why and what they are interested in. It helps me understand their intention. Music is key for me, so just having fun with music at first is important. It let's me see how they move and where we can actually start. I taught a lot of workshops and many for kids as early as 2. What I have learned is that the squat position is important for this dance. Also the fact that our hands touch the ground. My sister and I created a book called "I am Hip Hop" it was for the kids and soon we realized that when we did any classes/workshops on breaking most did not have any clue about the culture. So we decided to read the children's book to everyone we introduced breaking to. I think any teacher/instructor/coach has their pespective on the dance and culture. Mine has always been to share a positive experience and to grow in the process beyond dance. It's a beautiful thing to see a little 3-5 year old be afraid at the beginning of workshop and through dance be brave and leave feeling like a superhero.
👋 Introductions & Origins 👇🏼
This is the space to share who you are and why you’re here. When you drop your intro, think of it as a mini–story: 🌎 Where you’re from . . 👟 How long you’ve been breaking (or how you first got started) . . 🎵 Your favorite track to break to — the one that makes you feel invincible on the floor . . 🎯 Why you decided to join Foundational Methodz . . 🙌🏽 What you hope to learn, share, or contribute here . . 🎞️ Post a short clip of You (Cypha or Battle) as part of your Intro 👊🏼 . . The goal is simple: connection 🙏🏼

🌎 I'm Candy, I was born in Panama (Mom's Panamanian & Dad's Samoan) and raised in a military-connected family in the U.S. I've been in the breaking community since the late 90s. 👟 I first got started with my twin sister and cousin (Floor Angelz) after being told "girls don't breakdance," and, coincidentally, met Abstrak, Teknyc, and the rest of SKMZ, who taught me the 6-step at a rave — a full-circle moment being here now. I am also a member of the legendary crew Floorlords (Boston, MA). 🎵 My favorite tracks to break to are Latin breaks; it makes my whole spirit feel free 🎯 I joined Foundational Methodz to support Ab, stay inspired during my cervical spine injury recovery, and stay connected to breaking dialogue outside of social media. I recently won an Emmy for my research with NBC Sports on the live broadcast for the 2024 Paris Olympics. (First Breaking Statistician) 🙌🏽 I'm here to keep learning, refine my foundation, and contribute good energy, encouragement, and love for the community. Thanks, Richie, for sharing this platform. I am excited to launch the "Heartstream Collective" soon.
