AI, Numeracy and Social Mobility - Launch event at House of Commons
Good morning lovely ladies, A few months ago I was speaking with KPMG, one of our corporate partners, about this network and the exceptional range of skills and interests across it. They’ve been supporting a research project on AI, numeracy and social mobility, and I’m attending the launch on 14 July. They reached out on Friday to say they’d love to invite women from this network to join too - my contact had taken a look at WiTPN on LinkedIn and was very impressed. I’ve included details of the event below. Social mobility is a real passion of mine, and AI has the potential to do a huge amount of good, but also to widen gaps if we’re not thoughtful about how it’s used and the key skills required to access it. This research focuses on the role numeracy plays in that, which I think will make for a really interesting discussion. If you’d like to attend, please let me know and I can help arrange tickets. It would also be lovely to meet some of you in person. 🌟 Event details: We are very pleased to invite you to the launch of AI, Numeracy and Social Mobility – a new research report from Policy Connect and businesses of the National Numeracy Leadership Council. KPMG has worked closely with National Numeracy since 2018, when they co-founded National Numeracy Day to help people build confidence with numbers. Around half of the UK’s working-age population (approximately 17–20 million adults) have numeracy skills at or below the level expected of a primary school leaver. Date: Tuesday 14 July 2026Time: 08:00 – 10:30 (arrival from 8:00 for security clearance; 8:30 registration and breakfast; panel discussion 9:00–10:00, followed by networking) Location: Churchill Room, House of Commons Join Lord Evans of Rainow and an esteemed panel to discuss the report’s findings and policy recommendations. The research highlights that only 25% of UK adults believe numeracy skills are needed to use AI tools, compared to 42% who believe literacy is required. However, strong numeracy remains fundamental to engaging with AI confidently and critically.

What a day!!!!
It’s a bit of a late one from me because I’m on the train home after spending the day in London for a work event.…. What a day ✨💃🏼🎉❤️ Great weather, lovely people, loads of exciting conversations… and then they completely caught me off guard.…….. They’ve asked me to relocate to Barcelona in January 2027 to lead the community in the new office they’re opening out there. 🤯🇪🇸 I wasn’t expecting that conversation!!!!!! There’s obviously loads to think about. Finn will be in his final year of A Levels, so he comes first. I’m already trying to work out how I could make it work by travelling backwards and forwards until he’s finished because I don’t want to disrupt such an important year for him.….. It’s just mad to think where I was a few months ago.….. Now I’ve got Paris next week, I’m organising a Remobi - Women in Tech event in Germany later this year, travelling around meeting incredible people, helping grow communities across Europe… and now I’m being asked if I’d relocate to Barcelona.… what is my life?! 🤣….. there’s never a dull moment that’s for sure!!! I’m excited, a little bit terrified, and very very qvery grateful….. Sometimes life really does throw opportunities at you when you least expect them. Anyway… I’m absolutely shattered, so I’m going to get home, give Finn & Blacky-Chan a cuddle and let all of this sink in. ❤️…….i hope you’ve all had a lovely week xxx

@Lauren Hargreaves you are on fire girl!! Explore everything! An unexpected, but very real life balance, might be found merely through the very act of exploring an opportunity. …. And I cannot recommend highly enough working abroad for part of your career - wow, wow and double wow @Lauren Hargreaves
Stepping Outside the Day Job 🚀
Just wanted to share that I’ve just got home after a fun and inspiring two-day Sainsbury’s Hackathon! 🚀 We didn’t win this time, but I had a great experience, met some amazing people, learned a lot, and had plenty of fun along the way. Sometimes the connections, learning, and memories are the real win. 😊

@Lauren Hargreaves I think that would be incredible and I’m happy to help. We talked before about what this network could do to eg contribute to policy etc - but if we ran a targeted hackathon, ooh - there are so many possibilities. Perhaps we need a dedicated chat about people’s ideas/thoughts? Maybe there are ideas we have individually, which just don’t take off as we aren’t in a ‘room’ with others encouraging us? Maybe we can help launch one of those ideas together in a dedicated week or block of evenings? I have endless thoughts from speed dating mentoring type apps matching young stem grads to female role models in industry, to two minute video clip libraries of impressive women in stem that students can search for inspiration when they are at sixth from stage. Would be so interested in the ideas other have. It is a strange time. The media ban has come in and whilst as a parent I welcome less ‘gaming/scrolling’ screen time, I know that my 15 year old would never have achieved some of the project work he has done, if he had not had access to you tube (wind turbines!). Anyway - it’s Sunday Eve and I’m clearly wittering - but your comment re a hackathon for me excited @Lauren Hargreaves ! Wishing you all a lovely week. X

@Sue Black count me in. Great idea. Good luck @Sian Kelly Guy
And that’s a wrap…again!
What a week, it was really special I feel very lucky, but have also worked bloody hard. Years of plodding away and not compromising on who I am. It was all worth it for this ☺️
And that’s a wrap…again!

Happy Birthday Sue 🎉🎂❤️🎁
Without our fabulous @Sue Black, there would be no WiTPN…..no catch-ups…..none of our lovely friendships, and definitely no conversations that end up changing lives!!! Our awesome Sue has spent years championing women….. opening doors…. lifting people up and building the most incredible community along the way.…..So today, let’s celebrate her. 🥳💃🏼🎉❤️ Happy Birthday Sue! Thank you for creating this amazing network and for everything you do for all of us. We hope you’re having the most fabulous day in NYC and are being spoiled, you deserve the world & soooo much more ❤️🎂✨

I believe in pausing to gently ask the awkward questions - and in encouraging and empowering others to do the same. To see inconvenient truths.
