AI, Numeracy and Social Mobility - Launch event at House of Commons
Good morning lovely ladies, A few months ago I was speaking with KPMG, one of our corporate partners, about this network and the exceptional range of skills and interests across it. They’ve been supporting a research project on AI, numeracy and social mobility, and I’m attending the launch on 14 July. They reached out on Friday to say they’d love to invite women from this network to join too - my contact had taken a look at WiTPN on LinkedIn and was very impressed. I’ve included details of the event below. Social mobility is a real passion of mine, and AI has the potential to do a huge amount of good, but also to widen gaps if we’re not thoughtful about how it’s used and the key skills required to access it. This research focuses on the role numeracy plays in that, which I think will make for a really interesting discussion. If you’d like to attend, please let me know and I can help arrange tickets. It would also be lovely to meet some of you in person. 🌟 Event details: We are very pleased to invite you to the launch of AI, Numeracy and Social Mobility – a new research report from Policy Connect and businesses of the National Numeracy Leadership Council. KPMG has worked closely with National Numeracy since 2018, when they co-founded National Numeracy Day to help people build confidence with numbers. Around half of the UK’s working-age population (approximately 17–20 million adults) have numeracy skills at or below the level expected of a primary school leaver. Date: Tuesday 14 July 2026Time: 08:00 – 10:30 (arrival from 8:00 for security clearance; 8:30 registration and breakfast; panel discussion 9:00–10:00, followed by networking) Location: Churchill Room, House of Commons Join Lord Evans of Rainow and an esteemed panel to discuss the report’s findings and policy recommendations. The research highlights that only 25% of UK adults believe numeracy skills are needed to use AI tools, compared to 42% who believe literacy is required. However, strong numeracy remains fundamental to engaging with AI confidently and critically.

Sounds like a great opportunity 🙂 I’d love to join, but I can’t make it on the 14th as I’m a bit tight on annual leave. It would have been my first time in Parliament too 😀 Is anyone planning to attend the London AI Governance Roundtable on the 15th? I’ll be joining that one.

@Stephanie Stasey I think it’s an invite-only event organised by company called Codification, so there isn’t much public information available online. I was invited via LinkedIn. If you’re interested, I’m happy to connect you with the person who invited me on LinkedIn, and hopefully they can let you know about future events or extend an invitation.

Same here 😕. I was planning to join the 7:30pm call, but I won’t be able to make the 6:00pm session as I need to attend a parents’ meeting at Sara’s nursery. I’ll catch up with the recording afterwards.
Looking for your thoughts on AI and engineering productivity
Hi everyone! 👋 I’ve just shared a LinkedIn post on a topic I’ve been thinking about recently: how AI is changing software engineering, and how we should think about measuring its impact through engineering productivity, governance, and outcomes. If you’ve been involved in AI adoption or engineering productivity, I’d genuinely be interested to hear your perspective. Feel free to share your thoughts on the LinkedIn post if you have any experiences or different viewpoints. Always keen to learn from this community. 😊 https://www.linkedin.com/posts/muthu-karunarathna-24421652_engineeringleadership-artificialintelligence-share-7478943358409818112-ImYN/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&rcm=ACoAAAsQ8tQBXXGBTDlW5V9JkWJ8fyYkeA0WzEw

Taking the First Step 🚀
A few weeks ago, when I joined the Women in Power network, I shared that one of my goals was to step back into FinTech and continue growing my career towards Head of Engineering. The encouragement, advice, and confidence from this community gave me the push I needed to stop waiting for the “perfect time” and start taking action. I’ve now taken that first step and started exploring leadership opportunities in FinTech. Whether this particular opportunity works out or not, I’m glad I’ve moved from thinking about it to doing something about it. Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to back myself. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t the interview, it’s having the confidence to put yourself forward in the first place. Here’s to taking the first step. 🚀

@Amanda Parkin 100% agree! 😊 Sometimes we spend too much time waiting for the “perfect” moment, but taking that first step is what creates the opportunities. Thank you so much for the encouragement! ❤️
🎉 Exciting Career Update 🎉
Hi everyone 😊 I wanted to share some exciting news! 🎉 I have accepted a position as a Software Engineer / Data Scientist at Geotechnics. In this role, I am working on automating their manual lab processes using software and data solutions. It is initially a three-month contract, but I am really enjoying the work so far. I feel very grateful to be gaining hands-on industry experience while continuing to look for long-term opportunities 🙏✨ It feels much better to be learning, working, and growing rather than just sitting at home and searching for jobs 😊 Thank you all for your support and encouragement! 💐
