Hiya 👋 I’m newly diagnosed (last month) and wondering what the coeliac veterans do when I restaurant says this re:cross contamination? X

I am just coming up to the one year mark since diagnosis so not a pro at all. Eating out now makes me somewhat anxious, I would ask all the necessary questions re food prep protocols/utensils/work surface etc and make a judgement on how confident I feel with their answers. Lots of places use a disclaimer like this just to cover their backs which I get, it’s a huge responsibility. I have had places insist they can keep me safe, whilst dodging my questions and just replying ‘you’ll be fine’. That’s not good enough for me, so I refused to eat there. Some restaurants clearly know what they’re talking about and it instantly puts me at ease. Trust your instinct is my advice, good luck!
Yearly review
Hi everyone, I’m due my yearly review but it’s my first one with my GP. When I rang yesterday they said it’s just the blood test and they’ll only speak to me if something is abnormal. I just wanted to check that this is normal protocol as before I would have a phone call with the dietician. TIA x

I haven’t hit the year mark since diagnosis yet so can’t be of much help. Though from what I understand lots of people have to ask for their bloods to be done as it isn’t always done routinely so I would imagine speaking to a dietitian would likely only be done through a referral? Though like I say I’m not there yet so don’t know. Hope it all goes ok
Gluten challenge
Hi, I have been gluten free for three months and have just started to eat gluten again for the endoscopy. Has anyone got any helpful advice on how to get through it. It’s not been a week yet and I feel awful. Also will the side effects always feel this bad, are they likely to get worse or ease over the next six weeks x

I can’t imagine the side effects will get better but you may just ‘get used to’ feeling that way :( it’s rubbish, I really feel for you. I always try peppermint tea, hot water bottle and buscopan cramps-not sure whether it actually helps but it’s my go to on the off chance. I hope the next 5 weeks pass by quickly!
Introduction
My name is Gabrielle. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago now. I still have many days it’s hard to navigate celiac especially the loneliness of the disease. I’m on a continuous journey towards health! I’ve really wanted a space like this to belong to that will be filled with others who just get what it feels like!

Welcome You’ll find this group so helpful and welcoming. It makes a big difference having people that truly know what you’re going through and understand that not eating Gluten is often not the worst part of having coeliac disease
Pizza express
When I first got diagnosed, pizza express was my saving grace. Went there a few times and it was fine. First time I got it for takeaway I got glutened quite badly, but I assumed it was just because I don’t call them to clarify. I (stupidly) got a takeaway there a second time, calling in advance that I was a coeliac and they assured me that everything would be separated and safe for me, and still got glutened!! I’ve lost all hope in them, even though they’re accredited by coeliac uk, and was wondering if maybe I’ve jus been really unlucky with my local chain, or it’s just a pizza express problem. Thoughts?

How rubbish for you :( I imagine you have lost faith in one of our safest food options. I have been to pizza express several times since diagnosis last year and have always been well looked after and not had any problems. That said I have not had takeaway.
