@Nate McMillan the bass player determines the chord being played. He chooses the root note. Always be good to your bass player. 😁
Home brewed goodness
I built this a few years ago. The amp makes a watt or so and still needs a little work on its voicing. It started life as a six foot long piece of pine 1x10 board. Comments?

@George Zapata Thanks. My intention is to build a matching extension cabinet. Unfortunately, my table saw quit. I’ll get back on track with that project once I get some other stuff sorted out. Then I’ve gotta find a matching Marshall-labeled speaker for the extension.

@Gideon Miller solid state amps are easy and inexpensive to build. Tube amps are another story. My best tip is to think through every step clearly, keep plenty of notes and sketches, and above all be patient, take your time. You’re not looking for perfection, you’re looking for what you can learn in the process. That’s where the value is.
Cheap or expensive guitar
I'm curious the schools of thought on buying a cheap guitar and upgrading it to sound the way you want or paying the premium for one that already does, but also holds resale value vs the cheaper upgraded guitar you'll never get back what you put into it. I've always gone the middle of the road or cheaper and upgraded but I guess I see the value in investing in an instrument that may increase in value over time. What are your thoughts?

I’ve played Squiers that played better than the $1,000 strat hanging across the room. As for resale value, good question. I choose guitars that allow me to express my passion for music. I’ve only sold a few. I once sold a P-bass for 9 times what I paid for it.
The next generation
How many have got their kids guitars to see if they get into it?

If I leave it behind, my wife will dig me up and shoot me.

@John Lombard this doesn’t include all of the stuff in storage and everything waiting for repair. As time goes on I’m leaning more and more towards just letting go of most of it and keeping only a few pieces. Then theres the ten guitars to decide between.
