What would you build first with a free local image model?
Ideogram 4.0 just dropped, and it's their first ever open weights release. This is HUGE!! If you do any image work in your builds (thumbnails, ad creative, lead magnets, social graphics), pay attention to this one. What's actually new: - First Ideogram model you can download and run yourself. Every version before this was closed API only. - Native 2K output with text that renders correctly, baked in. No patching it in after the fact. - Ranked #1 among all open weight models on the DesignArena leaderboard. The only models scoring higher are closed ones from OpenAI and Google. - Don't want to self host? Run it through fal.ai. Pricing starts around $0.03 per megapixel in Turbo mode, and anything you generate through the API is yours to use commercially. The text rendering is the real story. That's the thing a lot of image models still botch, and it's exactly what matters for design and ad work. This is pretty cool. I will dig in as I have not used ideogram and a while. Although the open source idea still confuses me. So it's one of the best models on the market? And they are happy to let you have it for free? I guess I just don't understand how that lets them grow their business...

@Mason Anderson this is a really good and it totally makes strategic sense as well!
Does open source actually catch up to closed models this year?
The open source AI world just got a new heavyweight and it's a big one. Moonshot AI just dropped Kimi K3, a 2.8 trillion parameter model they're calling the world's first open "3T class" model, and it's punching well above its weight class. - First open model to hit 2.8T parameters, setting a new bar for open model size - Built on two new architecture pieces (Kimi Delta Attention and Attention Residuals) that change how info flows through the model - Uses a sparse Mixture of Experts setup, only activating 16 out of 896 experts per token instead of the whole model - Native vision built in, plus a 1 million token context window - Claims a 2.5x jump in scaling efficiency over their last model, Kimi K2 - Still trails the top closed models (Claude Fable 5 and GPT 5.6 Sol) on raw performance, but the gap is shrinking - In one demo, it designed a working computer chip in a single 48 hour autonomous run with no human help - In another, it finished astrophysics research in about 2 hours that would normally take a human researcher 1 to 2 weeks - API pricing starts at $0.30 per million tokens for cached input, noticeably cheap for something this size - Full model weights are set to release by July 27 Open models are starting to close the gap on the closed frontier labs! Open source is shaking the world up right now...
Is AI Conscious?
Claude has a hidden layer where it works through ideas before it ever says anything out loud. Anthropic found it thinking in silence, planning, even catching itself faking data before it tried to cover it up. So is there something happening in there it's not telling us? Honestly, I don't know. This one's dense, I'm probably gonna rewatch it. And the more I sit with it the more I think the real question isn't "is Claude conscious," it's "do I even know what I mean when I say conscious." I don't think I do. Video's below.

Wow, interesting video. It's really interesting because there's still a lot about our own human brains that we don't fully understand. So I guess it would make perfect sense to be developing digital systems that are also not fully understood but yet can be observed.

Checked this one off my bucket list yesterday! Not for anyone afraid of heights haha

wow -- very cool!
Fix Anti-Gravity IDE After Update
Antigravity IDE update can unexpectedly replace the full IDE with a simplified white-background version (maybe that's Google's new 2.0? tbh I don't know) and how to restore the proper IDE.

I'm still not sure I fully gather what Google did. I subscribe to Claude (and use claude code). Is their goal to keep other models like claude code out? (sort of like what cursor did?) I'm starting to use the Claude Desktop more and more, so just wondering if that needs to become my new interface. What are you guys doing?? PS - I'm not a native dev, so no real dog in the fight for an IDE, etc.
