I will be working during this :( It'll be recorded to watch back later, though, right?
Help me, help YOU. Help ME, help you!
I'm so glad to see this community coming together. I just want to make sure I'm creating resources that actually help. My journey as a writer has taken me through every stage of doubt/second-guessing and wild eyed confidence that flows each and every one of us! So I want to hear what vibes with you! What would be most helpful: - Getting the patient on the table -- finishing that messy first draft - Rewrites -- diagnosing what's broken and how to fix it - Character work -- my Emotional Authorship method (Wound→Lie→Healing) - Pitching & loglines -- grabbing attention without sounding desperate - Procrastination -- working with your brain instead of against it - Consistency over perfection -- showing up matters more than being brilliant. Stop beating yourself up. - Confidence -- facing the blank page when you feel like "who am I kidding?" - The business -- I can bring in my former agent and TV writers who taught at USC/AFI - Writing together -- body doubling sessions. Cams on, 30 minutes, no talking. Just write. - Using AI as a thinking partner -- I've built a GPT based on my coaching that helps you ask better questions about your story. Not to write it for you, but to show you new ways to think about it. Rave reviews from those who have tried it. You can find The Primal Forge GPT here, along with reviews. - Courses -- like The Full Journey (idea to finished script), Character Deep Dive, Rewrite Rescue, others? Drop a comment. What's keeping you up at night? What would actually move the needle for you? Let's make this place what you need it to be. Oh, and don't forget Story Hot Seat Monday at 10 a.m. PST where you bring whatever you're working on and get clear direction on how to move ahead. And we've got a Script Hot Seat with Vanlyfe by @Elliot Evans on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. You can pick up that script here.

I agree with Eleonora; just having this space has been a tremendous help for me already, even with the struggles. I'm currently still in the stage of just learning to write consistently and ride the waves, so not sure I should be trying to learn anything else, but I am very interested in a lot of what you and the others above have mentioned: pitching, courses, and the business.
Weekend Wins? And Podcast about to drop. Snipped below!
Good people — how was your week? Let’s kick things off with wins. The community has been growing fast, and I spent the last few days deep in the weeds building out the next phase: testing gear, refining workflows, and mapping out how to deliver classes and sessions at a level that actually moves your writing forward. Learned a ton — all of which I’ll be rolling into what we build next. In the meantime, here’s a quick snippet from a podcast I was invited onto. MacBook camera quality is… humbling. Which is exactly why I went down that equipment rabbit hole in the first place. I’m upgrading right alongside you. This week, here’s what’s on deck: - Monday Hot Seat Check-In / Accountability Call - Elliot in the Script Hot Seat with Vanlyfe later in the week - And more sessions queued up — this is just the start. Now — let’s hear your wins. Or your struggles. Both count. Showing up and telling the truth about where you are is the foundation of real change.

I’ve lost all momentum the last few days so no wins aside from not destroying my keyboard. Hoping to push through whatever this is and start writing again tonight. Excited for all your progress though and to listen to the podcast ep.

@David Stem Thank you! After struggling all weekend, i finally just jumped in and started writing this morning. It's only been a few lines but I'm taking it as a win and going to keep going. I just had to report back here!
The Boon Hidden in Procrastination
Thanks so much for the live call today, David. Really enjoyed it, always love the way these sessions spark new ways of thinking. When @Diane Whiddon brought up procrastination and writing habits, and @David Stem mentioned Big Magic (which I absolutely love), it reminded me of something I’d written a while ago that was sparked from a sentence I said in another community "Procrastination is my rebellion against the divine". It hit a nerve, and I ended up expanding it into a short 175-word piece that was later published by the Society of Scottish Artists. What I’ve realised since is that procrastination isn’t really about laziness, it’s the mind’s rebellion against the unknown. And yet the unknown is where the boon is, where the truth, the surprise, and the magic live. Thank you for creating this space David, and thanks to everyone who shared so openly. i LOVE this, Sarmed. "I didn't apply for this role" "No one checked my availability" "Sometimes I unplug myself for days because I didn’t ask to be chosen." “If you wanted a better conduit, you should’ve asked first.” ugh, It's all SO good. Thank you for sharing.

A few of my takeaways: 1. Already knew this, but once again blown away by how many cool, talented people are in this community. It's so awesome. 2. Writing comes first; then promoting, pitching, TikTok'ing 3. Feeling lost or stuck while writing doesn't have to be a bad thing. It can be an exciting time to get lost in the story and explore it. 4. At some point, you do have to share your script and invite others in. You can't edit forever. Do your best, then put a pin in it. 5. When you start to really build your world and characters, show up and write for them instead of using them just to advance a plot or get from point A to point B. Thanks for another great hot seat! :)
