Posted this on @atbiz_ would love to know your opinions also. I think there should be more athletic trainer owned businesses covering these sporting events.
Shelby Daly just talked about this in one of her more recent podcast episodes. She pitched the idea that PTs would get to map business strategy and collect the money while they send the ATs to do the work. It’s another scenario where PTs are over us even though we’re at least equal in value and have complimentary skills. I can agree that I do not want to be reporting to PTs. At the same time, if they have the service and financial backing to provide PRN, I’m in support. People just don’t want to do PRN work really.
Hey guys! I am just joining the group. A little background. I am from Oklahoma where I started my path to athletic training as the athlete that found my way in the training room every year with injuries. After a college baseball career, I did my masters program at the University of Central Oklahoma (met @Jenna Doggett there) and graduated in 2020. Since then I spent 5 years in the secondary school setting ranging from 6a to 4a in size. I transitioned to the college setting in 2025 where I am currently working primarily football and softball. I am also current president of the OATA and sit on the board of directors for MAATA. I’m here to be a better clinician and find ways to be able to use my skills to supplement my income outside of my primary job.
I’m going to be available to strongman athletes at the Official Strongman Games in Florida next month. I’m wondering how I want to market my services? I’ll be at an Airbnb so treatment pre, post, and during the competition. It’s a 3 day event with almost 400 athletes! Do I offer packages? Timed sessions? I’m open to any and all ideas!
Don’t forget to protect yourself too! If you could have a space where you don’t have to disclose where you’re sleeping at night, that would probably be a good thing. Also somewhere a little public will only help with that plus your liability. It’s the “doing treatments in someone’s hotel room” scenario that opens you up a bit more to stuff. Having the door open, or maybe offering semi private where having multiple clients in the space at the same time may help you
Hello! My names Jake (no not from State Farm) and I’m an ATC at a high school in Iowa. I’ve been out of college for about 8 years, done 6 years in the HS setting with some overlap in the industrial setting. Been covering industrial athletic training for 7 years and covered about 15 different contracts. Just recently I started posting content on TikTok and Instagram and have tried putting myself out there more. I’d say so far so good! Eager to meet a few more likeminded ATCs! Happy Hump Day! 🐫
Welcome Jake! I just followed you too. I’ve been an industrial AT for a few years, now growing my business. God bless you for doing for 7 years! Idk that I could 😆
Interested to see what everyone's favorite AT stuff is out in the ethos? IG Page, TikTok, FB Group, Podcast, Youtube Page. Would love to see what everyone is getting the most value from?
Ya I think I tend to agree with many things Mike Stella has to say. I like The Business ATvantage. They got me started thinking of my skills as a business. I’ve been listening to The Pure Athlete podcast too. Mostly as research to better understand coaches and parents involved in youth sports. I’m really trying to like the AT podcasts in general but I can’t take conversations where they talk about “we really need a solution for X thing.” I especially dislike the convos where they do that with guests who don’t have any ideas or possible solutions to provide.
@Jenna Doggett 💯 Alex Hormozi! I went down a big rabbit hole a couple weeks ago while I was repackaging my services. DOAC is hit or miss for me. Sometimes it seems like the guest isn’t actually a reputable expert. That might just be me though
