How often do you really clean the coop? 😅
No shame. We’re among friends.

We have a “Mill” at our house, essentially a composting bin. This thing grinds and cooks, anything we put in it. Of course we only put things in it that our chickens can eat. When it’s time to empty the bin out I spread a little on the ground and the chickens go crazy. The rest goes in the garden.

@Jared Latigo like you said my chickens do not like bananas. I can barely get them to eat pumpkin.

I’m not having any issues at this time. In the winter I leave the coop light on for a couple of extra hours, so the girls will keep laying. For the most part most all the chickens get a long.

Tender advice
What’s the #1 mistake you made early on that you’d save others from? No judgment — just wisdom. I’ll go first. We jumped in head first with 20 chicks of all different breeds. It was fun but we ended up with about half of them roosters. I’d recommend finding what purpose you have for them and then sticking with a couple breeds designed for that. Don’t just go with all the fun breeds you can find. Also, have a second coop ready and available for if you have to quarantine early. 😅

My number 1 mistake was not knowing how much work chickens could be. I’ve since then got a good routine going. Non the less, still leaning new things every day!

All of my eggs a variation of brown. It would be cool to have a mix but Orpingtons do not give any other color than brown.

I raise English Orpingtons and I am also, a dog mom. I love learning, raising raptors, crafting, and spending time with my family.
