Tips For When Your Bride Doesn’t Love Her Trial😅
Sometimes a bride comes into her trial convinced she knows exactly what she wants! For example, she thinks she wants her hair up and during the appointment we’ll try two or three different updos. But by the end she realizes maybe she actually wants it down. Or she just isn’t loving it the way she thought she would. Most of the time I can tell when a bride isn’t loving what’s happening even if she’s being super nice about it. When I sense that I always try to address it right then by saying something like, “I feel like you’re not totally loving these. Is it that it’s up? Tell me what you’re feeling! You’re not going to hurt my feelings. Let’s figure it out!!” I make it very clear that I want honest feedback. I will say something like, “I promise you won’t hurt my feelings. This is your wedding day I want you to absolutely love your hair!!” Creating that safe space is huge. A lot of brides don’t want to seem picky or rude, so they’ll hold back unless you invite them to be honest. This is also exactly why I always recommend that my brides try one up and one down at their trial, even if they’re pretty sure what they want. Seeing both on themselves is often what helps them truly decide. That said some brides are adamant. They’ll say, “With my dress I KNOW I don’t want it up” or “I’m 100 percent sure I want it up”. In those cases we may spend the entire trial creating two or three different versions of that same category all up or all down. And that’s usually when this situation happens. They’ll leave realizing it’s not necessarily that the styles were bad, it’s that what they thought they wanted isn’t actually what feels best on them. Or maybe they thought they wanted a super slick back look but what they’re really craving is something softer with more texture. Or they thought they wanted very polished but they actually want more lived in and romantic. If we’re running out of time in the appointment and we can’t fully pivot I always reassure them and offer a second trial

@Ruthie Mannion yes definitely!!! That’s so cool!! That’s a different story for sure. With my out of town brides I always just schedule for a longer appt just in case!!:)
I’ve got a question
Since I don’t have great demand yet, I was thinking of offering trials before you book. How would you go about that and what would charging look like?

Hi!! Such a good question. If a client wants a trial before booking, this is how I go about it! If a client wants a trial before committing, I let them know that’s totally an option. I tell them my trial fee (just decide what it’s worth to you). I make it clear that if they end up booking, that fee gets applied to their total balance. If they don’t book, the fee isn’t reimbursed—this way, your time is covered. I also let them know I can’t hold the date until they book. If someone else inquires and books in the meantime while they are deciding/waiting for their trial, then I’m going to go with the person ready to book me. That’s the small risk they take by waiting to commit. This approach keeps your time protected while still giving the client a chance to see your work before deciding🫶🏻
