@Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills man they are bold around here in the middle of the city. They will take small dogs and cats. One was always wandering by a creek near here every night. My dog was so excited she wanted to go play with it. I'm like that's not a dog. The racoons take out our chickens. I've caught them in the act. Then the next night they took out my aquaponics catfish. 50 lbs worth and didn't leave a single fish.

@Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills yeah down in Houston we had them in our house. My dad and I trapped over 20 of them. He decided he got enough at that point. Mean guys. Aquaponics is fun. We remodeled here and I need to set it back up. It takes so serious work to get going.
Beautiful morning
After the storm yesterday woke up to a beautiful cold morning. How is it in you world today?

We Couldn't Get Through. So We Camped Right There.62 minutes on the Satilla River in winter. Downed trees, cold water, cold dark portage, fat lighter fire, steak on a sandbar. What's your call when the plan hits wood out there? Where the Map Ends, The WILD begins!! Stay Rugged.

@Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills it was cool, watched / listened while moving abiut today. It was really chill and felt like I was there. The shots were great. Man that was some rough navating around those trees. I enjoy those kinds of videos when I'm doing busy work and just go along for the adventure. A lot that I watch tend to narrate a little more but I think that may depend what your goals are and what everyone wants from that. I liked seeing your fire starter setups and your sleep system. All of those are great to see and learn from. How long have you been posting on YouTube?

@Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills do you have any favorite channels you follow and model after?

You wake up late. Air’s colder than you planned. You’ve got time to fix one thing before wheels roll. What are you checking first? A) Sleep system B) Water plan C) Layers D) Food Where the Map Ends, The WILD begins!! Stay Rugged.

@Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills in usually really warm and will sweat in below freezing temps. So I'll do something like this. Performance long-sleeve shirt that wicks moisture. Short sleeve tshirt. Long sleeve tee. Then sweat shirt. Then coat that resists water and wind. That handles most everything I could face. Two layers of gloves worst case. Outter has to resist water. Boots. Thick socks. Maybe two if its that cold. If I'm moving I need to shed most of that. Most important is to keep the wind and any rain off me.

@Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills totally. Below freezing ice in my face on a volcano and still sweating. Then I'm down to my shirt 🤣. Moisture management is definitely key
This guy’s been here since almost day one. Jim Flach — Member Spotlight. 🔥
@Jim Flach showed up early and never stopped showing up. He’s on the calls. He’s in the comments. And when I post a field scenario he doesn’t just react — he actually thinks it through. This week he broke down the portage decision like a guy who’s been in that spot before. Time of day, daylight left, gator behavior after dark. That’s backcountry thinking right there. What a lot of you might not know — Jim raised his family off grid in the Trinity Alps for 10 years. Built systems from scratch. Wrote disaster plans. Led healthcare builds. The man knows what calm and prepared looks like when things get real. That background shows up every time he posts. Glad you’re here Jim. This community is better for it. 🌲

Jim sounds like the real deal with that backstory. Glad you are here.
