First Thing You Built That Made You Proud
My wife and I bought a new couch with a matching ottoman about 7-8 years ago. We didn't notice at the time, but the feet were made of plastic. Wasn't a problem with the couch since that doesn't typically move once you set it in place, but the ottoman gets moved around a lot and it wasn't long before one of the feet broke off. Fast forward 5 years and 3 moves later, and 3 of the 4 feet had broken. So I removed the last unbroken foot, saved the screws from all 4 feet, and set it aside for the time being. Around that same time, I decided I wanted to take up woodworking as a hobby. After another couple of years, I had finally accumulated enough tools, knowledge, and "want to" to make new feet for the ottoman using that unbroken foot as a design template. I'm pretty pleased with the results. The hardest part was figuring out how to cut the compound miters without having to reposition the saw blade after every cut.
