Recruiting is a FULL TIME JOB!
My name is Bob Sexton and I've been around the game of football over 50 years now. During that time, I've played football in high school and college, spent five years with an NFL athletic training staff, and spent two years as the COO of an Arena League Football Team. So, I have a bit of experience and a few contacts in the game, and because I tend to ask a lot of questions, I've learned a lot about the game, and about recruiting. I’ve learned a LOT, and helped many players get a full ride, including my own son. There is so much that goes into getting recruited to play college football, that it's almost literally a full-time job. From the time my son took over as the starter in high school as a sophomore, until he signed to play college ball on signing day his senior year, it felt like it was non-stop. The biggest mistake that people make is thinking that your high school coaches are going to get you recruited. There have been surveys done and 93% of high school football players said they thought their coaches were handling their recruiting. It has cost many players an opportunity to play at the college level, and millions of dollars have been forfeited because no one knew about the player. You've probably heard the statement “if you're good enough coaches will find you.” This is true to some degree. If you are a five-star player, coaches will most likely find you. However, there are countless cases when a player with exceptional skill, good size, and all the speed required, never get found. Guys like Baker Mayfield are a perfect example of this. Baker played high school ball 20 minutes from my home, and he was an exceptional football player, and obviously still is. But he had zero offers coming out of high school. He went on to become a walk on starter at 2 top Division One programs, won the Heisman Trophy, and went on to become the number one pick in the NFL draft, yet no one offered him a scholarship coming out of high school!! One of the main reasons I have chosen to offer this is because I'm tired of seeing these so-called “recruiting services” rip people off. If you're a high school athlete I am sure that you have seen multiple companies that say, “sign with us, and we guarantee we will get you in front of college coaches!”
