Do you have a contingency plan?
Last week I landed myself in the ER at 3am and scheduled for emergency surgery by 8am. I had an entirely booked schedule for the next 10 days and very little time to even contact my immediate appointments for the day. Now, I have been in business for nearly 7 years and am a single mom of two small children. I learned early on in motherhood I needed a backup plan for sick days and other emergencies or I was going to sink the ship fast. Luckily I have diversified my income since then and hired to help fill in the gaps when I cannot be at work. But this latest event has me remembering those early days and wondering how many other solopreneurs have thought ahead. This isn't to stress you out if you are new to the entrepreneur world and already spread thin wearing all the hats. This is because I want you to think strategically and plan. Life happens and we aren't always given a heads up. What will you do?

Run in circles screaming. But really.... I'm at the point of just barely making it, I'm not really sure how to put together a contingency when I'm (essentially) paycheck to paycheck. Can't build a best egg, can't afford to hire, i know something is out there but not sure what it is.

My current hurdle is growth, Finding new venues and hosts. I'm surprised my nose isn't broken from all the doors slammed in my face.
why people can't achieve their dreams?
People often struggle to achieve their dreams due to a combination of internal and external factors. Here’s a structured breakdown of common challenges and potential solutions: 1. Psychological Barriers - **Fear of Failure/Success**: Fear can paralyze action, as people worry about judgment, rejection, or the pressures of success. - **Self-Doubt**: Lack of confidence in one’s abilities or worthiness to succeed. - **Procrastination**: Delaying action due to overwhelm, perfectionism, or lack of motivation. - **Fixed Mindset**: Believing skills or circumstances are static, rather than embracing growth and learning. **Solutions**: Cultivate self-compassion, break goals into smaller steps, and reframe failure as a learning opportunity. Mindfulness practices and therapy can also help address underlying fears. 2. Practical Challenges - **Unrealistic Goals**: Vague or overly ambitious dreams without a clear plan (e.g., "I want to be famous" vs. "I’ll take acting classes and audition locally"). - **Resource Limitations**: Financial constraints, lack of education, or limited access to networks/opportunities. - **Time Management**: Competing priorities (work, family) or distractions that derail progress. **Solutions**: Set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound). Seek mentorship, scholarships, or side hustles to bridge resource gaps. Prioritize tasks and eliminate non-essential activities. --- 3. Social/Environmental Factors - **Lack of Support**: Unsupportive family/friends or toxic environments that discourage growth. - **Societal Pressures**: Cultural norms, discrimination, or expectations to conform to traditional paths (e.g., stable careers over creative pursuits). - **Economic/Political Instability**: Systemic issues like unemployment, inequality, or lack of infrastructure. **Solutions**: Build a supportive community (online or local) aligned with your goals. Advocate for change where possible, and adapt strategies to navigate systemic barriers (e.g., remote work, freelancing).

Oh boy does that sound like me on almost every point. Then add the final point, with so many issues, where to begin?
What’s the biggest challenge in your business?
What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing in your business right now? I’d love to offer any feedback or support! For me, at this stage, it’s creating SOPs and building an operating system for my team. I’m in the process of hiring a couple of new people and want to set them up for success so they can perform at their best!

Finding that something that my competition is doing for them to be so far ahead of me with a lesser product. It's got to be something simple, but finding it is my issue. My organization is better My product is better My appearance is better My skills are better Everything i can see is better, but they are winning. So list and confused

@Devin Butler that was one of my first questions myself. She doesn't advertise any more than the daily Facebook post in 3 groups showing where she has shows that night. That is literally all the advertising she does. And with all the new shows she adds, she doesn't go to them, they call her. That makes it even more confusing. In the last month I have beat the pavement going bar to bar, talking to managers and owners, some were so against the thought of karaoke in their bar they did everything but physically throw me out. "Nope, we don't do karaoke here, we won't do karaoke here, i can't stand karaoke, you can leave. " Then he turned his back on my and walked into his office. I'll never forget THAT one. I hadn't even gotten a word of of my mouth after introducing myself, the moment i said "... with Paradigm Karaoke", he said that. Then 2 days later, my competition advertised they just booked a new show... AT THAT SAME BAR. I have a far superior product in every way, and this isn't just being subjective of my own business, i go in looking professional, button down shirt with my logo and name, i bring in a short card showing bullet points of increases in "hang time", average ticket per person, food sale increases, bringing in friends, studies that prove all of that increases when karaoke is in the entertainment mix at venues. All the same things any other b2b like Touch Tunes Jukeboxes, or arachnid dart boards would walk in with. Not getting the shows is annoying, but not the killer. Having that same person who threw me out and refused to speak to me again, called her to start karaoke. She doesn't call around, they all call her. Yeah, I'm pissed off about it, but I'm even more confused about the why. She is not in my area, her "area" is over a half hour away and this venue in my example is less than 5 minutes from my house. And they called her. I don't get it, I can't even start to correct the issue as I don't know what the issue is.
