If you had to choose 1 house
If you had to choose 1 house to restart your entire collection. What would you guys choose? Which house has the 4 season versatility that you could be good with? Mine would be Parfums de Marly I think

I don’t think I could choose just one. They all have different aspects and notes that hit differently based on concentration. I’ve only tried Creed for Irish Tweed, but if there is another I should investigate I’ll take the advice. But then I also like Penhaligon’s Inimitable William. I’m all over the spectrum…
Smell Good For Less
I was interested, and still am, in colognes, but I didn’t know where to start. Like most people these days, I went straight to YouTube University. Before long my feed was full of β€œTop 10 Colognes,” β€œBest Fragrances for Men,” and every influencer telling me what I had to buy. What I discovered was a much better way to do it. There are several fragrance decanters that buy authentic full-size bottles and transfer them into smaller atomizers that you can purchase for a fraction of the cost. Instead of spending $100, $200, $300 or more on a bottle you’re not sure you’ll love, you can buy a 5 ml sample and actually wear it. That’s the important part. You’re not making a decision based on one spray at a department store. You’re wearing it in the real world, on your own skin, with your own body chemistry, over several days or even weeks. You’ll find that some fragrances you love at first disappear after an hour, while others you weren’t sure about end up becoming favorites once they dry down. That’s exactly what I did. I bought fifteen different 5 ml atomizers of fragrances I wanted to try. Some became immediate favorites. Others were easy passes. It saved me a lot of money and helped me figure out what actually works for me instead of relying on someone else’s opinion. If you’re just getting into fragrances, check out some of the fragrance decanters or fragrance decant retailers. It’s one of the cheapest and smartest ways to build a collection you’ll actually enjoy. If you want the names of the companies I’ve used, send me a message.

@Antonio Cent I had no idea something like that existed until I saw some videos. They are the best!
When wearing a tweed vest, is it mandatory to match the color of it with your trousers?
Hi. I know herringbone tweed is an uncommon topic, but I really want to try the vest and patterned oxford shirt look. My three questions are can you wear different colored plain trousers, dress pants or do the pattern and color of the trousers absolutely need to match? It’s casual but I’m aware gentlemen’s dress code is much more strict compared to plain formal. Thank you!

I have had a difficult time finding a tweed vest that I like that seems to match most of my style. So far I have two, but they don’t seem to be quite what I am looking for. I really want to try them on before I buy them because the sizes vary wildly from one manufacturer to another…
Colognes
Hi everyone I’m looking to build a consistent rotation of at least 2 - 3. Does anyone know of some that work? I a novice when it comes to cologne so I just want something affordable and good for everyday and semi formal use. Thanks guys

@Dr. Jason Cole Agreed. I am working my way through the ones I got to see which best fits, and so far i am a real fan of the Penhaligon Inimitable William. There is something about this scent that really resonates with my chemistry! There are a couple others too.

@Dr. Jason Cole That’s part of it too. The significant other has a lot of say in my personal aroma… LOL
One Pair For Most Occasions
I’ve spent a lot of time over the years buying shoes and boots that were supposed to have a specific purpose. Dress shoes. Casual shoes. Work boots. Going out shoes. Before long, the closet was full, but I still found myself reaching for the same few pairs. Then I came across a pair of Red Wing Heritage Beckman 9030 moc toe boots. The more I learned about them, the more I realized they represent something we’ve largely lost. They weren’t designed to be fashionable. They were built to be dependable. Quality leather, Goodyear welt construction, comfortable enough to wear all day, and built to be resoled instead of thrown away. What really sold me was how good they look across different settings. They work with jeans and a casual shirt without looking like you tried too hard. They look sharp with chinos and a button down. Add a sport coat and they still fit. Put them with a navy or gray suit and they do not look like work boots pretending to be dress shoes. The dark cigar leather, slim profile, and understated moc toe give them enough elegance to hold their own without looking delicate or overly formal. When I was a kid, I remember older men wearing boots like these. My grandfather had one pair of brown boots. They were his work boots, his church boots, his dinner boots, and his travel boots. They weren’t categorized because they didn’t need to be. They were simply his boots. Somewhere along the way, we started believing we needed something different for every occasion. I’m not sure that made life any better. I’m finding myself moving in the opposite direction. One really good pair of boots. One good pair of athletic shoes. Flip flops for the beach. That’s probably enough. There is something satisfying about owning fewer things, provided the things you own are built well enough to last. These old Red Wings remind me that quality, elegance, and versatility never really go out of style. They just get harder to find.
