Total Gym Workout or Training Video
Figured I'd drop this over to you guys as I'm feeling the urge to make another total gym video and or band video on the channel. Let me know if there's a workout and or related training video you want to see. Summer is lining up though for both some very cool band and sliding bench content regardless if everything goes as planned. Hope you all are doing and performing well, Mike

With the quantity of quality TG and GR8Flex machines on the market for around $100, nothing should hold anyone back from getting a sliding bench trainer.
Weekly Fitness Wins Thread of... Wins!
Hey folks! Thought it might be cool to have a place where if you're proud of an accomplishment fitness-wise and need a bit of applause, let it rip! Maybe you figured out a Total Gym setup that confounds even Mike D, or was able to get through a resistance band workout without a snap, or maybe just a walk around the block!

@Mike D how old are your kids? Both of mine lift and one is a personal trainer as well.

Today was a push day. Bench, incline, press ups, dips, tricep extensions, front raises and lateral raises. Around 3 sets of 15 of each until the front and lateral raises. Completely emptied the tank. Started up top on TG for bench finished on 1 for the last set of lateral raises. Tomorrow am will be a pull day.
Modified Upper/Lower Body Split
Lately I’ve been running a pretty simple upper/lower split again because it fits my schedule / recovery best. . One thing I’ve noticed though, is I feel best when I actually give myself about 3 full days before hitting the same area again. So what I’ve been experimenting with recently is: - Upper - Rest - Lower - Rest - Repeat It’s technically a little lower frequency, but honestly it’s been working really well. I feel more recovered, workouts feel better, and it’s freed up some time with everything else I’ve got going on. I’ll probably look to add a bit more walking/cardio as we get into summer, but for now this setup has been working fairly good where I'm feeling pretty fresh each time without any regressions. Also quick note, I know I haven’t been posting a ton in here, it's going to probably be like that I until I get that first course going. I do want this to be a place where you guys can share and help each other out too, so feel free to jump in, keep things positive, and keep it centered around training. Curious what kinds of splits you guys are using and more importantly, is it actually working for you?

I’ve been on a push/pull/legs three day rotation. My only issue is the shoulders. They are totally fatigued by leg day.
Hack Squat (ish) on Total Gym with bands/weight bar... anyone else doing this?
Total Gym _can_ do legs, but without added weight, taxing the legs a lot (as Mike D has said too) is tricky. That said, I've had pretty good luck with a couple hundred pounds on the weight bar, a squat harness, and cranking the height to the max. Questions are: - Am I the only one thinking this is effective, or am I chasing diamonds in the sky, possibly with Lucy? - Today I loaded up 310... I thought the weight limit was 300, but not sure if the bar or the Total Gym will give out first? - Using the Pilates bar with high weight is a catastrophe waiting to happen...I'm assuming? Your thoughts!

I like to squat on the Total Gym. At 61 I don’t really care for a bar on my shoulders. With resistance bands I feel like both my two legged and one legged are working for me.

@Mikey A both my knees have been partially replaced. Both hips replaced. The Total Gym is great for rehab and building strength. I recently added jump squats to my workout. So far no pain and I feel better.
Used Total Gym Purchase - Rehab, Maintenance, & Upgrades
So question for group... I just bought a used Total Gym 1900 model for $30. It's a 7/2015 build date machine and has some use on it. It's in decent shape but needs maintenance/cleanup, a new cable replacement and installation, and some rust cleanup on the chrome parts and pins. This was a middle-of-the-road model when built (as best I can tell.) It has a decent mid-tier weight limit of 350 lbs. (more than the 250-275 lb. limits on the base tier models but not the 400 - 450 lb. limit of the heavier duty XLS or FIT models.) It also has the 12-tiered tower incline settings like the later FIT models. In addition to the maintenance stuff, I am going to upgrade it with some key additions, including: - Custom Squat Platform Build: I am going to build a custom squat platform out of wood and heavy gauge steel bars that will be bulletproof and include bar inserts that will never bend from heavy use (this 1900 model came stock with the pilates bar and no squat base attachment, so I definitely need a squat base anyways.) - Adding chrome aluminum handles (to replace the stock TG foam and fabric handles) - Adding hammock/rock climbing bearing swivels at handle connections to keep new cable from getting twisted in the pulley system Question for Group: - Is anyone interested in seeing a how-to vid on TG maintenance tasks and rehab and how-to on the upgrades? (if so, I will video-document these tasks to share, if that is OK.) Question for @Mike D : - Would it be OK to link to YT vids for the above here ? (don't want to do anything that is against the rules here, so figured I'd better ask before linking to external videos...)

@Chris B I don’t believe that’s an issue. I recall a GR8FLEX bending but that was under enormous weight and not a TG stand. If you’re going to put that much weight on it, you should probably get a heavier duty TG. I might be mistaken but I don’t recall it. Mike puts a lot more stress than most people ever will.

I never saw that. Looks like it won’t hold up.
