AIMA support group thread: Who has renewal hacks or info to share?
OK, let's get the jokes out of the way ... AIMA stands for"AY! AY! AY! MA" or "An Inability to Make Appointments" Let's get our heads together here and share insight and hacks on moving those renewals forward and getting our updated residency cards. Starting with the Russian WhatsApp group crowd-fund idea!

Ok so our renewal is not due until February 2026, however, is there a list of documents that we need to gather? I would like to be ahead of the 8 ball instead of playing Raiders of the Lost Ark and be squished by it. The boulder or 8 ball that is. I tried to log in but since we are way after October AIMA wont allow me to log into their website to start.

From sun-kissed islands to secret corners, there's always somewhere new to discover. Europe’s wealth of attractions is its biggest single draw. Who hasn't dreamed of seeing Florence’s Renaissance art, Venice’s graceful canals, Paris’ Napoleonic splendor, and the multilayered historical and cultural canvas of London? And spring adds an extra layer of magic to many of Europe's greatest cities as trees and flowers blossom and outdoor exploration gets a bit easier. Outdoors types will be spoiled for choice in Europe – the continent is blessed with a dizzying diversity of natural scenery, from rugged Scottish Highlands dotted with glens and lochs and the snow-capped mountains of the Alps to the flower fields and hilltop villages of Provence and the island-speckled coastlines of the Adriatic and Aegean. And those are just a few of the highlights. Wine of The Week (w/e 21-09-25) - Fidalgo de Silgueiros Branco
I am definitely becoming a DAO-ist after a shaky start, back in 2020, in the early days of the wine club. However, with the encouragement of Sergio at Red Notes, my local wine shop in São Martinho Do Porto - from where each weekly recommendation comes - my conversion is near complete! This one - Fidalgo de Silgueiros Branco - was delicious last night (still loving the whites in Autumn) after a long day, alongside a delicious chicken dish made by @Louisa Munson 😍🍷🐔 Also of note: The word 'Fidalgo' is worth looking up from a cultural perspective.

'Foreigners Law' - updated thread (July 16, 2025: Portuguese Parliament approved changes to a law about how foreign people can enter, stay, & live in Portugal)
See also 'Citizenship reporting'. Thanks to @Paolo Funassi for this summary, as passed by parliament 16th July, 2025 (First publshed: Estrangeiros/Foreigners Algarve) *New Immigration Rules Update Information* On July 16, 2025, the Portuguese Parliament approved changes to a law about how foreign people can enter, stay, and live in Portugal. This new law ends the process that allowed people without papers to regularize their status by showing employment and Social Security contributions. It also adds new limits for job-seeker visas and family reunification and sets a final deadline for certain pending cases. Key Changes 1. Ending the "expression of interest" process: The option for undocumented migrants to regularize their status by proving they have a job and have paid Social Security is now gone. 2. Deadline for pending cases: Foreign nationals who were registered with Social Security and working by June 3, 2024, can still apply for a residence permit, but they must do this by December 31, 2025. After that, the option will no longer be available. 3. Stricter rules for job-seeker visas: Now, job-seeker visas will only be available to people with highly qualified skills, which will be defined by the government. If they don’t start a job within 120 days, they must leave Portugal and can only apply again after a year. 4. Family reunification requires two years of legal residence: Foreign nationals must live legally in Portugal for two years before they can apply for family reunification, but there are exceptions for minor children already living in the country.

Is this different or did I miss where they are trying to make immigrants who moved here under the law of 5 years than you can obtain citizenship to now it is 10 years? Did I miss this or has this fallen to the waste side or what?
