Little adventures & full hearts 💜
I’m still away on my little adventures, now in Manchester staying with @Treena Gooding and her lovely family 🥰 Our family reunion went so much better than I could have imagined. It was one of those weekends that leaves your heart feeling very full. So many stories, photographs, conversations and connections that I know I’ll carry with me for a long time. I’ll write a proper post when I’m home and have had time to gather my thoughts a little more, but for now I just wanted to say it really was something very special ❤️

It's really beautiful seeing people celebrating tine taken away instead of work. This is the important stuff in life 🙌 cheers to more living and giving less importance to things that truly don't matter 😊
Following Old Footsteps 💜
Today me and the kids are heading off on a kind of pilgrimage to Lincoln, where our family originally came from 💜 There’s a big family reunion happening and although it’s on my mum’s side, I’ve only actually met two of them before 🙈 But my mum is 67 now and living with Alzheimer’s, so it feels really important that we go and represent our little branch of the family tree for her. It’s quite a trek up country from where we are, so we’re stopping overnight just over halfway and turning it into a little adventure along the way. There’s something quite special about retracing footsteps, hearing old stories and connecting dots that maybe would have been lost otherwise. I think sometimes we carry pieces of people before we even know where they came from. That’s our weekend plans 💜 How is your weekend looking? I’d love to hear what little adventures, quiet moments or chaos you’re all getting up to ✨

We’re off to the Artic
Grab your hat and gloves my creative explorers… 🧤this week Around the World in 80 Sketches is taking us somewhere a little bit chilly 🥶 We’re heading up into Arctic Alaska 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 where the roads feel endless, the skies are huge and everything has this beautiful quietness about it. I think places like this are fascinating creatively because there’s so much atmosphere in the subtle things… muted colours, icy textures, tiny buildings against giant landscapes. 💙 And in hilarious Smidgen style the road we landed on is called Cakeatter Rd 🎂🙈😂 https://maps.apple/p/UCfXnb00bLeZcj I can already feel the watercolours calling my name for this one but maybe I need to change it up somehow 🧐 As always you can join in however you like. Sketch, paint, collage, write a poem, doodle for five minutes or simply tell us how the place makes you feel. 🙌🏻 No pressure. No perfection. Just a little creative wander together 🤍💙

@Kate Bullock beautiful 😍. I'm incredibly connected to the ocean as well. I'm a Pisces- total water sign. I live about 45 minutes from the ocean now. There is a beach town in Oregon I'm certain you would love called Yahats. Its a small town full of local artists, and hippies. I feel very at home there. When covid hit the small shop owners were worried how they would survive and all the wealthy people in that community dropped by a check each month to cover all their expenses. They didn't have to worry about losing their small business or homes. They are a really sweet community ❤️
Chasing Depth with Watercolour & Salt ✨👌
There’s something about watercolours that feels a little bit like letting go. For this week’s Around the World in 80 Sketches I reached for the paints, sprinkled in some salt and let the pigments do their thing 🙌🏻 ✨ I also pulled out the fine liners because I wanted to play with contrast between softness and detail. I really enjoyed building up the layers and depth in this one, watching the falls slowly appear through all the washes and textures. 🎨🧑‍🎨 I think that’s one of my favourite things about creating… sometimes the materials surprise you if you give them enough room to breathe 🩵

Gorgeous! Was this a particular waterfall that inspired this? Have you ever seen images of Multnomah falls in Oregon? I've hiked it many times. It's 🤯
🇨🇦 Around the World in 80 Sketches : Canada Calling 🍁
This week we’re heading to Canada… and oh it’s a good one 🙌🏻A quiet road, soft trees, that feeling of space stretching out beside you… the kind of place that invites you to slow right down and notice. 👉https://maps.app.goo.gl/A4ecYzZjNCzec7859 Before we wander too far… I’ll also be sharing my Greenland piece soon ❄️ It’s not quite finished yet, still sitting in that in-between stage… but I quite like that part of the process. The not-quite-there-yet. The becoming. Now… let’s go exploring 🌍✨ 🌿 If you’re new here You can travel with us no passport required. 🙌🏻 Each week we visit a new place using Street View and respond in whatever way feels right to you: * a quick doodle * a painting * a collage * a poem * or simply a few words about how it makes you feel There’s no right way to do this. Just a smidgen of curiosity and a moment for yourself. ❤️ I’d love to see what you notice in this one… maybe it’s the way the road leads you forward, or how the trees hold the space, or something small that only you spot 💛

I've never drawn a thing in my life, so this was definitely an interesting experience for me. 😬 There's a little story of why this is symbolic of Canada for me, and why this place is so sacred to me. A few years ago I was feeling quite numb inside. I had spent a lifetime burying emotions and trauma far to scared to release them in any capacity- not even to myself. On my last night in Canada I was sitting by the water waiting for the sunset when I happened to catch a glimpse of a man from India out of the corner of my eye sitting on his yoga mat meditating in front of the water surrounded by the most most brilliant amber sun I've ever seen. His face spoke beauty with a fluency of peace I've yet to see on another soul in this lifetime, and in that moment I actually felt something I hadn't felt in a very long time- tears, really heavy tears falling down my cheeks! I knew whatever ease that man was holding i needed it too. As soon as I got off the ferry back to America I went on Instagram (and I felt the universe placed this person in my life who is now such a beautiful light in my life) and a random mindfulness reel from an Irishman named Conor who helps people deconstruct life popped up. That night I booked a session with him and met with him online the following evening. He has woken me up, challenged me, dared me, and brought out the me I never knew existed. So my drawing of Canada 🇨🇦 although a bit unconventional is a reminder to me of a place that 'woke me' up. And for that my heart is forever grateful 🙏

@Kate Bullock thank you. The feeling is mutual. You are a beautiful human. I realized something last sitting down to draw. Anytime we as humans set out to try anything new the first person meeting us at the door is so often fear or doubt. It's our job to smile at it, flip it off and keep walking forward 😉
