Which is the best way to store auth tokens on the frontend. Localstorage of cookies?

The framework will recommend this mostly, but JWT and the structure of that is most suitable for security. You can also template out you JWT with Clerk or Auth.js. It can be used in your middleware or server side code. Keep all security/auth data away from the client-side.

So I can speak for frameworks I use in my Next.js projects. I recommend looking at the framework you using for support on the topic. As they detail how to handle the session in a completely secure process. If you not using a framework, you will need to construct the JWT and use packages around that.
