New to the group
Hey, I am new to the group. I want to make a more heavy duty CNC plasma table, than the JD Garage Gen 1 I have. I do build smokers on a hobby scale:)

Very cool! Let us know if you need any info on building that plasma table!

Got ahold of some 3/32 rod.
I think it’s time to scrap this pipe for a new practice piece. 130 amps 120 hertz 35 balance 19 cfh Number 6 cup 3/32 2 percent lanthanated tungsten.

@Bryce Grant All good man, I can’t see it super well but if you’ve got good consistent penetration, no pin holes and no penetration that’s divided down the middle and not a solid head you’re good. If there are any pin holes where you restart your weld the either overlap the weld a bit more or give it a bit more pedal at the start to get the puddle up to size and penetrated before you start moving. Outside is looking great!

@Bryce Grant No problem, look forward to seeing what you do next!

125 amps-struggled on the pedal with heat at the end of runs. 150 hertz 3/32 2% lanthanted tungsten 1/8” 4043 filler rod. #6 cup on 18-19 cfh I did clean up the corners before I gave it to a co worker. I also have a video of all welds. Had to cut out two of them and redo them so they got a little wider and grainy.

@Bryce Grant Penetration could be better, the 1/8 rod was probably stealing your heat. See how it comes out with 3/32 rod!

@Bryce Grant I have never tried a bevel on aluminum, it would probably be helpful but not required. I usually run about 80 amps on 16 gauge aluminum not sure what you’re running. It looks like you could burn in your restarts a bit better. Either overlap a bit more, use more foot pedal at the start, or wait a little longer before you start moving the leg the puddle penetrate. Every time you step forward watch for the puddle to sink down and flatten out before you add your filler.
CNC build
So I’m getting ready to have my parts cut and I’m not sure what type of steel, thickness, size sheet. I have to transport metal to the table I’m using to cut parts. I also don’t want a lot of waste to have to deal with. Any info would be helpful, I have a standard pickup nothing fancy that I will be using to transport the steel.

@Mark Cole Awesome, so you’re aware the torch plate spacers are supposed to be cut 2 out of 3/8” and 2 out of 3/16” but if you want you can just cut 6 out of 3/16” that way you don’t have to buy 3/8” for two little squares.

@Mark Cole no problem!
