Preston was offered a position at Chesterfield FC Development Academy (CAT4) for the 2026/27 Season. After a long and hard conversation we have all decided now is not the right time for Preston. The main reason is Chesterfield FC Development Academy are a new set up and are more set up for U18 rather than U7 to U12 etc. The biggest issue is that they train Mon & Thur with games monthly and in school holidays. His current team Spire Rangers play in the top divisions on Saturdays and Sundays and are an ambitious and competitive team playing twice weekly with development games every couple of weeks. They also train on Mondays and Thursdays and missing these sessions would isolate Preston from his teammates socially and tactically, and would likely require Spire Rangers to bring in a second keeper. This would ultimately reduce his grassroots game time, leaving him with limited match action overall. At this stage in his journey, maximising consistent training and maximum match experience is our priority. After discussing this as a family, we feel that accepting the place at this moment in time would not be in Preston's best interests. Preston is comfortable with the decision and is still pushing himself to be a top level Goalkeeper and having fun whilst doing it so.
