State Three | The Flamekeeper
"I know so much about myself. I've done so much work. So why does my mind still feel this loud?" This one is close to my heart, because I lived here for a long time. The Manomaya Kosha is the mind layer... the seat of thought, analysis, self-reflection, and that very particular kind of exhaustion that comes from being highly self-aware. The Flamekeeper has usually done a lot of inner work. You understand your patterns. You've sat with hard things. You show up for yourself, for others, with real presence and real effort. And still, there is this. The mental noise that doesn't fully quiet. The inner voice that keeps weighing, measuring, wondering if you're doing enough, being enough, resting correctly even while you're trying to rest. The beautiful and slightly maddening thing about this layer is that the very intelligence that helps you grow can also be the thing that makes it hard to land. There comes a point where the most profound thing you can do is let the mind loosen its grip, even briefly, and discover that something deeper has been here waiting. That's what this work is really about. Recognizing yourself in this state takes a lot of the pressure off. You stop trying to think your way into peace and start giving yourself permission to actually experience it. 'I feel everything so deeply. Some days it's a gift. Other days, I don't know what to do with it all. There is so much tenderness in what you carry. And I think part of you already knows that. The second layer in the yogic map of the self is the Pranamaya Kosha — the energy body, the layer of feeling and flow. When we're moving through life primarily from this layer, emotions arrive with a lot of intensity. You might absorb the moods of the people around you before anyone's said a word. You might find yourself moved to tears by something small and beautiful, or unexpectedly undone by something you thought you'd already processed. This is the state of the Tidal Heart. Someone whose emotional world is genuinely rich... and genuinely tiring to navigate without the right support. Sometimes the waves feel manageable, even meaningful. Other times, they arrive all at once, and there's no clear shore in sight. And so there are days when you go a little numb just to keep moving, and then wonder later why everything feels so far away. You haven't done anything wrong. Sensitivity like this is one of the most quietly powerful things a person can carry. It just needs tending. When you understand the energy layer and how it moves through you, emotions start to feel less like something happening to you and more like something you can be present with. i feel this in my bones (and soft tissue LOL). I haven't quite landed on recognizing the intensity in real time. It usually shows up as confusion as to why I am struggling to integrate all of this somatic experience into words. I can only say this in hindsight, because during it's incredibly disorienting. I have decided to work on a personal toolkit, like a menu of options (so I don't have to press on myself to think of what I need), when I start to feel a bit seasick that includes limiting communication, physical movement, nidra, something like a bath if available, and giving myself a set period of time to be in this space say ~24 hours and then evaluating what I need from there. Being in motion between locations tends to turn up the volume here too (or the tides!).
